The weekly Abstract and Experimental thread
This weekly thread, starting on a Tuesday, allows us to showcase our abstract and experimental photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the creativity of the image.

    It’s easy to participate
Post an image with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:
This weekly thread is for sharing and developing abstract and experimental photography skills.
We want to see wild, creative photography.
Give your entry a clear title and mention the technique used.
Provide constructive feedback on others’ images.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
    ”Likes” are encouraged too.
Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).
Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is an abstract or experimental photo?
Different ways to see and investigate the world around us. Abstract photography reduces a subject to shapes, tones or colors making it unrecognizable. Abstract subjects are everywhere.

Experimentation might include, Stereo/3D, macro, Infrared, dragged shutter, zone plate, motion, fluorescence, multiple exposure, birefringence, ultra violet, optical including adapted lenses, tri color, fractals, manipulated Polaroids, intentional camera movement, pinhole, Kirlian (bioelectrography) and many other methods. Experimentation can be for artistic expression or pure science. It is often more difficult than standard types of photography. This is fine, we aren't expecting perfection. Every experiment enhances knowledge. Your idea can help others explore the universe around them. We love experimentation. You can explain your process or keep it a secret.

This will be a looser collection of photos compared to other weekly threads. This is good. It will be a place to get away from standard animals, babies & sunset photos. We don't hate animals, babies or sunsets. Show us your creative abstract and experimental images. Are you unsure if the image fits the category? Don't worry, just post it. FEEL FREE TO POST MULTIPLE TIMES TO THIS THREAD. Have fun!

For some reason my file doesn't contain any exif data. Most likely it is my Pentax *ist DS or Olympus E300. I do know what the abstract is. Anyone want to guess?

Looks like part of old CRT monitor/TV (not Sony). What is imaged there, no idea.

True, there's no Sony involved 🙂. No CRT either🤔. You are on the right track.

Well, at closer examination it can't be CRT, my fault (CRT screen has either triangular or non-shifted linear structure).

[Broken or shadowed] LCD (TV, monitor, electronic viewfinder) then? This thing has quite unusual pixel pattern, shifted rows of RGB - I haven't seen this in PC monitors, but possible some smaller devices have such layout.

You got it! A LCD screen with ruptured cell. The black areas are the leaking liquid crystals. Believe it was the monitor screen on a Casio digital camera. The screen was probably about 1.5-1.8" so this is a macro image. 20 years ago I thought it was a neat phenomenon and cool subject.
One of my earliest with a DSLR.

    Reflections - or not?

No, I'm not asking you to guess. Well, you can if you want to, but I'm not sure about all details myself anymore. I took it a few years ago. But I thought it could pass as an abstract.

Definitely fits in this thread. Can't decide if it is a reflection or multiple exposure. Slightly leaning toward reflection. Might be interesting to crop everything but the center.

No trickery, straight shot. It's a big display window that they were about to create some kind of installation in. I'm outside on the sidewalk. The thing in the middle is inside, some kind of room in the room, lacking the front wall. I think it was in some shiny metal. Those coloured lights are in there, but I can't recall how they were arranged. Some of them are reflected in the metal. Possibly the real lights are all on the floor and the coloured ones are reflections of those. The signs and windows on the left are a reflection of the building on the other side of the street, so are the bright blue things to the right. Not sure about the lit windows at top right. Could be a reflection of the house behind me, or they could be inside the room. There, I figured most of it out! Anyway, I found it fascinating with all the reflections and that the reflected objects were both outside and inside the room.

ArvoJ had already figured yours out when i came here.. But I wouldn't have had a chance anyway.

The added color pieces make the picture. The bright, almost fluorescent, bits contrast nicely with the earth tones. I like the tight framing and your ability to make an image from very few parts.

Looks like a nice image of blue sky and wispy clouds. If correct, your camera does a nice job reproducing blue sky. I've seen some cameras struggle with sky.

Yes it was some cloud with a small area of interesting patterns. I only had my long tele so couldn't get a more expansive shot to show the surrounding areas.
I increased contrast and saturation to give it a deeper blue.

I also guessed right even if I was too late to compete. 😃
