t's festinating watching the owl family after sunset as they become very active. Both owlets were high in the trees and mom and dad flew into near by trees calling to them and the chicks were answering. The younger chick few about 40 feet from one tree to another flapping rapidly and desperately just making the second tree where it had a hard time sinking it's talons into the tree to avoid falling. Mom was carrying a squirrel and seemed to be luring the younger ones to follow her further into the woods. This photo of mom was taken about 30 minutes after sunset on a cloudy evening with the light of the city reflecting off the clouds making for very strange colors. I stayed another hour after taking this photo watching as photography was no longer possible as it was very windy so I could not do longer exposures than this 40 second one.

After 3 and 1/2 years of not doing any serious traveling my wife and I are finally getting out of the US and going to Italy on holiday for 2 weeks. Hopefully I will be online enough to post some photos for next weeks thread. However, the last time we are off the continent was years ago on a visit to Iceland. The second day we were presented with this scene. Gullfoss.
Originally we were planning on dining fine tonight. The birthday boy wants brats on the grill instead. I had him cleaned up anyway. Lest I be accused of elder abuse.
Thanks, Morris. One of the very first responses you made to one of my photos a few years back was bring appreciative of people or other familiar objects as an indication of the scale of a photo. This is a very large waterfall and a very long line of people willing to get pretty wet to see it.
