I was freaked out that the D3s flashes "CHA" at the top of LCD display and low battery in viewfinder no matter which battery I put in. The end of my D3s? so sad I felt.
Well, actually, I just inserted a new not-formatted CF card. After formatting, everything goes back to normal. This is is the first time I ever "panicked" about this old trusty body.
Hopefully, anyone of you ever get into the same situation. Don't panic, all you have to do is FORMAt the card.

Never had that issue with mine. The very few panic moments I had were due to a lens not twisted on all the way or dirty contacts. The D3S is a tank.
Way back when I had my D3, if my old 50 1.4D was mounted, I would throw that thing around like a rag doll. Anytime I went anywhere, as soon as I opened my driver's side door, I would literally throw it over to the passenger seat, half of the time with it bouncing off and landing on the passenger side floor board.

I would expect a Camera seeing an unformatted Card to hiccup. I might take one of my old CF cards, delete the Partition, repartition it, then without formatting it, stick in my D200 and see what happens
