My Canon D30 has about 20% bigger pixels, so it should do even better, unless pupil size combined with sensor size is what is going to get the quality.

which part are you going to prove that the old 10um pixel from the 25 yold d30 canon cant out perform the latest 61 meg tiny pixel sensor
also please do tell us how the properties of silicon all of a sudden has made a remarkable increase turning photons into an electrical charge. if you think im going to hand the direct comparison images over to you, think again, your smart, go do your own digging, in fact its very simple . problem is you have to have an inventive mind.

To the innocent they seem like founts of knowledge, however their sick, lifeless souls would love to drag you into their own personal Hells and have your spirit forever mired in worrying about how sharp your lens is. If you start worrying about this and you'll never photograph anything again except brick walls and test charts."

what i like about these threads is the sudden quick turn off the hi-way. but the facts have eventually shown up.
it was only a matter of time. what i like is the direct studio comparisons i could link together 😊

Ken's characterisation is about right but the self-righteousness is not. There's room in this world for all kinds to get fun, whether it's from taking great photos, taking the photos they like, collecting cameras (new or old) or just memorising every spec of every camera ever made. We all have our own tastes.

With the same area times exposure, per square inch of monitor real estate, or at totally irrelevant 100% pixel views, with the G9-II gratuitously oversharpened for the purpose of comparison to larger pixels?

totally irrelevent to the comparrision i have always been chasing. it proves my point that larger pixels produce smoother and more defined colour graduations than smaller pixels irrelevent of sensor size. its why i chose the a7iv for the larger pixels. the chart from the tested d30 25 years ago clearly has better seperation of darker shades than current cameras on the market in fact some of the current cameras cant even define the last few sections when pushed in post.

I will not get into a technical argument, but the creamy colours I got out of the 12MP D700 are better than the D800,810 and 850/Z7 that followed.

i would love a sony a7s2 proper 12 meg sensor if it had the AF performance of my a7iv. ive seen some spectacular portraits taken with 12 meg sensors.

It doesn't prove anything because the pixel size on the sensor is certainly not the main, if at all, contributor because the quality of the color graduations from my 90D are noticeably better than on my 600D (larger pixels than on 90D).
