    [rant]

Having stuck stubbornly to Windows 7 for years, the shit has finally hit the fan, grump.

A week or two ago, I went to check my Chase bank account on-line, as I have done for decades. Up pops a message saying my Browser is out date, so I downloaded the "latest" (FireFox 115 because FireFox no longer supports Win 7) only to find that Chase no longer supports Windows 7, now wants Windows 10+. After trying to upgrade my oldish Dell to Win 10, I just had to give up ... too complicated for this old man. Thanks, Microsoft ... may Gates live in hell.

So I saved my 'User Ted' files onto my Seagate USB external drive and bought a refurbished Win [11] Dell and downloaded FireFox 146.

    Jeez ...

I opened FireFox - none of my profile stuff is there - no passwords, bookmarks, cookies, na-ni-na, as one might expect.

Even worse, my pictures folder on the Seagate is empty. Super-ouch.

So now I'll have to reconnect my old Dell and save the entire C drive to the Seagate if it will fit.

And Windows [11] is so different than 7 that it really, really sucks !!!

    [/rant]

    Try this: www.palemoon.org/ (On your Win7 computer, I mean :) )
There are more Firefox clones to support WIndows 7, Pale Moon is the only what I've ever tried.

Your Firefox profile contains all your passwords and stuff.

The profile should be in this folder:

    C:\Users\Ted\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

At some point in the Firefox install you may be able to tell it which profile to use. Otherwise there is a config setting that you can edit after install

Google search should find you a link to defining a profile to use and the steps needed - also the correct location of your old one if I am incorrect above

I didn't realise winders had gone to version 14. I am still living with the constant nag to upgrade from 10 to 11

Yes ms have a lot to answer for.

On the internetz they recommend to use some User agent switcher extension to present your browser as newer browser on newer OS - they likely check just user agent there, not actual functionality.

I've used ExplorerPatcher and OpenShell to make my Windows 11 machine look just like WIndows 7.

There is also WaterFox if you would like to try that out.

    www.waterfox.com/

Firefox also has their Extended Release versions. 115 is their latest version which I haven’t kept up to date with the news.

    FWIW
Try the WIN11 "as is" for a while before using 3rd party software to get it to look like Old Windows.
After a couple of weeks, moving stuff around and tailoring your preferences, you may find it OK to use.
    Plenty of advice on line.
Let's face it, none of us spends much time in the OS.
We're much more likely to be in Firefox or our Photo software.
Worked for me, which came as a surprise.
