I use a desktop and two laptops. I browse this site from either one depending on where I am at the time.

Usually, my session stays logged in on this site, even when I close the browser and come back later. Sometimes for days.

At other times, I am logged out and need to sign in again.

My best guess is that when I login from another computer, the previous session is logged out. Is this correct? Is there a way to prevent this behavior?

    Thanks.

That doesn't happen to me. Are your browsers synching between the three systems?

Do see similar things here, using multiple laptops I also have to sign in again if I use a different laptop.

    Same question then.

Nope all stand alone Firefox browsers on Windows 11 (Canary, Dev and preview builds) laptops

OK - mine synchronise between laptop and desktop. Maybe that's the difference.

I've replying on my desktop now and I posted above on my laptop. I didn't need to log in between doing it.

You can log in form as many Browsers as you like.
But every session is 24H long so if you do not visit the site with this browser for more tha4 24H your must login again.

Oh - is it because I'm an admin that I can get away without logging in?

IIRC, there were times where I didn't need to login after 24 hours. May be, I was mistaken. I will keep an eye on it.

That's why I went to the different PC theory.

To Alan's question, all my browsers are independent and do not sync between each other.

    Thanks.

    Wow...that's a disastrous policy.

A bit of a pain point, I agree. I have this issue on Chrome on my smartphone and tablet, which don't necessarily access the site every day. They are all synced up via the cloud. Two questions about login:

Why the need to keep sessions so short?
Why don't username and password show up automatically in the login window?

    Thanks.

Getting constant logout's too which is annoying!

That’s a matter for you and your web browser rather than the site, although I strongly recommend using a password manager instead.

I'll discuss it with the team.

That would be a huge security risk, would it not?

There is no way for the app being logged into of knowing who is actually sitting at the keyboard or holding the phone when someone tries to log in.

    Danno,

It's a common feature and one that I use all the time. But I do have other safeguards in place (like password protecting my machines when I am not there, and locking the house when I go out) that makes it all worthwhile, given the number of forums that I am active on.

Ok, I didn't realise it is a common feature because whenever I log into any forum, online banking, online anything I have never seen my username, let alone password, shown by default when I go to log in.

I suppose it must be some sort of browser feature that I have disabled by default or some other accounts managing apps' feature which I don't use.
