Fellows certainly want things all North Korean like. You walk straight or we shoot you, kinda.

Left out Jim's quote in my reply. No idea why. I'll try again

Picked up that gig again, eh. Pay any better?

Moderation still Kim Jong Un like or have the new owners moved moderation away from that? Wouldn't ask that question over there, but I'll throw it out here. I see the rules are still one rule only, sub-divided about 20 times and still leaves a lot of room for misuse.

Someone is sharing their account with me over there so I'm not there as much but from what I have seen it is very much quieter there now with only a small fraction of the pre-"closure announcement" activity.

I doubt the mods have much to do their now but it's definitely still a much more level playing field here.

I ask because I saw this thread locked in the Z forum.

    www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4724137

Really nothing of any consequence in the thread, if something had been removed, no reason based on what's left to shut it down, not even a swipe at Nikon from what I see.

I'm just not interested in getting caught up in that bs again.

A post of mine was censored recently. It was about telephoto compression and had nothing out of line. My NK minder is still breathing down my neck.

That was my concern. Not that I have much interest in being there anyway.

Yeah I've noticed quite a few threads locked / deleted / or posts within deleted on dpreview.com lately. They just cannot help themselves.

    Hi,

Well, what gets moved to The Dump here, gets locked there.

If people don't start belittling others, in this forum or mentioning people in others, then we have no issues over here.

Hey Alan, still no notification system on here? The site is really difficult to use without one. Hopefully soon...Also what is with the PM system? You get notification of a PM but it takes you to the first page of the conversation, not the latest? It is nonsensical, several have messaged me about this issue - it would be good to get this resolved too.

  • Sept. 1, 2023, 12:27 p.m.

Notifications will come with the next version of Misago. That is planned as one of the earliest updates we want to do.

Yes, I've noticed the issue with messages and it not taking you to the latest. I thought it was just me until you mentioned it. I'm not sure why people are messaging you and not me. I'll get it checked out.

Alan, when I say people are messaging me about it, I meant in passing. Like we are chatting about something and they bring up the two problems I mentioned etc. Dpreview has a good blueprint of how to do things logically in that sense with the PM system and notifications etc.

  • Sept. 1, 2023, 1:27 p.m.

We have a PM system. I am on here at least once every day, so I normally pick things up quickly. But getting bugs fixed depends on others - and they are very busy with other things at the moment. I hope to have some timescales on when things may happen in a week or so.

Notifications - yes, it's broken, but it will be re-enabled in the next version of Misago, which we hope to update here this month (September). But, as you know, things can get delayed.

So, here's a partial list of things we want to try and achieve in the near future.

Update the Misago underlying forum s/w to the latest version (currently 0.36.1). This should give us notifications so we can see when someone has replied to a thread that we have joined in with. There's other benefits to the latest version. Have a look here misago-project.org/t/misago-036-and-0361/1222/ and here misago-project.org/t/misago-035-the-one-with-notifications/1213/ for some of the details.

Get the email server working. This should give us additional email addresses for correspondance.

Make some improvements to the look and feel of the home page. Have a look at dev1.dprevived.com for the layout. We've reduced the vertical spacing between forum names and changed some of the colour schemes. This work is still ongoing, so it may change before it makes it to production.

Introduce a payment processor for any donations.

Possibly update the editor to be a better wysiwyg one.

Go through the bug & feature list that we have and produce a work plan for those.

    Threaded view.

Update the terms of service and privacy documentation and post them as a PDF.

Bring in GDPR documentation and forms (a requirement we should have done some time ago).

All of this depends on people being available, so there are no timescales here. Please be patient with us - we are a small (but dedicated) team and we have lives to live outside of this forum.

Once we are more stable, we can then look at adding further features such as the editorials & reviews we have been talking about.

    Cheers

    sirs,

I note that some corespondents mention "off topic" diverging posts. In my experience distant topic related digressions can be quite interesting, so I hope you will not discourage such contributions.

Also , a system that automatically appends links to similar topics below the last post in a thread would be useful. However, indisciminate quotation clusters for participants with deficient memories (or who are too lazy to follow entire discussions) should be discouraged. Maybe made impossible.

    Hi,

The side discussions occuring is where Threaded View comes in. You can now see them and choose to keep reading down a side discussion or not. It is a one thought leads to another thing, and some very interesting thoughts do come up. Others, of course, aren't so interesting and then can be ignored as one wishes.

That's far preferable to constant cries of It's Off Topic. ;)

Some folks don't like threaded view, so just have that user selectable. Me, I'd be in Threaded View, FWIW. But, then, I like off topic discussions at times.

At the moment, we have no plans to stop or dissuade off topic conversations. After all, that's what happens in a pub or bar - you start chatting about one thing and it soon turns to something else.

Threaded view is on our list - but it will not be the first thing we update.
