I was out tonight and took a picture of the sun setting over a reservoir. The original looked like this:

I put it through Photoshop to lighten the shadows and got this:

Then did it again, but just B&W.

I'd like your collective opinions as to which seems better to you and why.

    Thanks.

    Alan

The sun is still fairly high above the horizon and so the colors in none of the photos look natural compared to sunsets in my part of the world.

I prefer the second color version. I would have liked to see a bit more space above the sun.

Speaking for myself, I prefer the second, and would like it better if the shadows were raised slightly less.

    Thanks all.

I was on a walk with 18 Cubs - I didn't have the time to stay until actual sunset, so it was just a 'chance' snap.

I prefer the second one too. I could turn down the shadows a bit and see what it looks like, but to me, anthing less is tending towards black. Here you go:

Sorry! That's too much turned down. Is there a halfway position? 😀

Yes! I mean, grass is grass -- it all looks the same -- just green. It is sufficient to know it is there without upstaging the main event!

    Best,
