Who would purchase a photo?

Would you, personally, purchase a photo (at market price) that does not have you, or anyone you know, in the photo, and hang it on your wall? That is, I'm not talking about purchasing a famous photo in hopes of selling later for profit. Nor am I talking about photos of a graduation, wedding, etc., that has people you know in it.

Honestly, no matter how good the photo is, I just don't see myself doing it. But, for those of you that would, what photo (or types of photos) would you buy (again, at market price) to hang on your wall? And follow up for those that would -- if you haven't already bought them, why not?

EDIT: Also excluded are photos of entertainers, to include athletes and political figures.

At least once a year i buy one or more bundles of photos. From varying genres: landscapes, architecture, animals, flowers, people, etc pp. Usually a dozen photos with the same theme strung together, so that they can be hung on a wall, and flipped for my viewing pleasure.

They're called wall calendars.

I suppose I should have made it more clear in the OP that I meant only photos -- not things that had a different primary purpose but also had photos. So, would you buy "photo flip books" and put them on your wall that served no other purpose other than to display the photos?

And while I'm here, let me compare and contrast with paintings and drawings. I think people would are far, far, far more likely to put up paintings and/or drawings (or copies of paintings and drawings) on their wall than photos that do not include themselves or people they know personally. Well, I think I have to make an exception for the MAGA crowd -- I've a feeling that a decent number of them might have pictures of Trump on their walls, so let's exclude that, and all similar political photos (such as photos of Mao, Putin, etc.) that people in other countries may have on their walls.

The last framed photos I purchased were aerial photos of my house with the surrounding neighbourhood. They were good resolution shots and this was before drones were a thing so they were kind of unique in that regard. But maybe that doesn't count because they are essentially personal.

The only other "photos" I purchase are the occasional photography book for a genre that I like.

I buy wall calendars for their photos, and not for their purportedly intended "primary(??)" purpose.
For date/time calendars i got my smartphones instead.

On the walls of my house hang two original paintings, a couple of printed original drawings, and some copies of paintings. And even more wall calendar photos.

about 10 years ago a guy on DPR posted some awesome images from his country of buildings in the snow. they matched the furniture i inherited from my grandmother and i asked him if i could print them he agreed and sent me the original files. they are still hanging above her furniture in my home. He passed away 5 years ago and i still think of him when i look at the photos.

I would like to buy a Michael Kenna photograph of the area where I live. His Black and White prints are superb. But they cost about €2000, so I continue to think about it. Also we have our walls full of paintings inherited from my wife's parents.

That would be a gray area, and, in fact, something I thought of bringing up, actually, but thought no one does that. 😁

Yeah, I didn't mean books. Just photos you'd put on your wall. I bet a lot of people have a few of the Taschen series!

Ironically, while I said I wouldn't buy others' photos to put on my walls, I do have a couple -- but I purchased those long, long ago before I was in to photography.

By the way, I need to add another exclusion (I'll edit the OP), and it's embarrassing that I didn't think of this from the start, given all the KPOP posters my kids have on their walls -- not photos of entertainers, which includes sports and politicians (that takes care of the MAGA exclusion I added, too!).

I've done it once - with gifted money for that purpose.

That is, unless you count posters I purchased in college for my dorm room wall.

If you purchased your gear and printed a photo using it to hang on your wall, then you purchased that print. What's more, even if the gear wasn't purchased, you still purchased the print.

I was asking myself a similar question earlier today. What images or paintings etc would I put around a place?

I want a digital frame of some size, like a Frame TV, to display images. I would buy content for this, but I would be reluctant to rent content.

Beyond that, I would buy prints or make prints of my own images. Not for aesthetic reasons, but if the image draws and holds my attention.

My wife visited a friend in Utah. She came home with two large framed photographic images she thought I would like. I did. They are still in our living room. They have been in two of our homes so far. But, I have about two dozen of my own images on our walls as well. From 12x18 to 16x24 before matting and framing. Most I have printed myself. Either in the darkroom, or digitally. I do have a couple of printed images that I obtained from other photographers via print exchanges as well.
