Exactly. Now is even worst. If I want to make a thread about a Leica compact or my M cameras I have to go to the L-mount forum which makes no sense. At DPR the Leica forum is pretty active.

Devil's advocate: where is the section for Leica APS-C MILC cameras T / TL / TL2 and their TL-Mount lenses? 🤘

I think it could easily be fixed by renaming the top level to “Leica and L mount cameras”. As a Q2 and soon to be M10 user, there is no logic in going to the L mount forum to discuss them! You had it right on your BB4 forum…

Leica forum discussion should include M cameras (film and digital) and Q/Q2 cameras (as well as D-LUX, C-LUX, and V-LUX). All those systems are not L-mount. Therefore it does not make sense to put Leica subforum under L-mount as it is now.

Leica and L-mount are not the same things, period.

D-Lux and V-Lux are Leica compacts.
Q, QM and Q2 are their own thing.
M... Well I no need to explain.

Leica T, TL, TL2, CL & SL yes they share the same L-mount.

Is not so difficult to comprehend that should be a Leica forum with it's corresponding sub-forums.

I also think that Leica should have its own dedicated forum at the top of the tree as the other manufacturers. I’m basically just repeating what was already said, but Leica makes more cameras than just for the L-mount. One could even argue to add a dedicated forum for the Leica M-mount, and another one for the remaining Leica cameras like the Q etc.

We will keep repeating the same thing until someone from the admins acknowledge that the Leica M-mount, Q, and all compacts do not belong to the L-mount, therefore it is wrong as it is.

This is an easy fix - but until someone tells me, I can't fix it (I don't know the details of all cameras - but I'm learning).

So now I know that not all Leicas use the L Mount. Do you want separate forums for the M Mount and Q mount and Compacts? and are there others? Or shoudl I lump them all into one forum?

Whilst the site is small, I think there are dangers in subdividing too much - there is the risk of many dozens of fora each with only a handful of users. I’m a believer in taking note of the lifetime of posts on the front page of a forum. On DPR, there was a single forum for all Leica cameras and the lifetime was about three weeks - on the Fuji forum it was about three hours and I think there would have been a valid case for dividing it. For the moment, the number of users is likely to be relatively small and a single forum for all Leica cameras would be the way to go whilst accepting that, some years down the line, it may need to be rethought.

Leica is under L Mount. Maybe one other forum under 'others', which is "Leica Non L-Mount"?

I think the ‘L-mount’ thing is a bit of a distraction. It seems to me that what we’re asking for is a ‘Leica’ section with the same level of importance as, for example, Pentax has. I have no figures to support this, but I suspect that L-mount cameras comprise a very small subset of Leica cameras.

IMO, there is no point in having a section heading with one forum in it. That just expands the forum views unnecessarily. If you could tell me of the different Leica types and we agreed they each needed their own forum, then that is different.

When I set up the 'L Mount Systems" heading, I thought I was doing the Leica people a favour by giving them their "own" section. But obviously not!

So, let's be realistic here. Unless BobN2 overrides me (and he may do), you're not getting:

    Leica Cameras
    Leica

So what would you like if you can't have the above. Of course, I could just change the section "L Mount systems" to "Leica and L-Mount systems"

At the risk of duplicating myself since this topic is discussed from multiple angles (Sigma: dprevived.com/t/sigma-forum/836/#post-6138 ), there's some work to be done on organizing forums, but let's not let that lead to a bunch of new forums just because one fits several places. Is it possible to have a single forum appear in multiple categories?

I mean, we already have "Olympus, Panasonic, and Micro Four Thirds" which doesn't even contain all the Panasonic forums.

Nobody wants their brand to be in "Other", but much of it could be moved to a "Legacy" category if we find a good home for Leica and Sigma (top level or not). Ricoh naturally belongs with its sibling Pentax anyway.

EDIT: If we really can't have one forum in multiple categories, I guess "Leica, Sigma and L-Mount" would be OK-ish if we remove the "Panasonic Lumix S Talk" with zero posts for now.

Something is telling me to walk away from this discussion, but before I do, I’ll have one last try. You had this right on your previous BB4 site and I don’t understand why it didn’t transfer forward. What I think everyone wants is a Leica top level with sub-fora:
    M-mount
    Q/Q2/Q2M
    Compacts
    L-mount

I think there would be some potential overlap between 3 and 4 above, but that’s unavoidable. That’s the same as the Pentax section and fits the general model.

Thanks for your work on this forum, but that does not make sense to me because Leica has a lot of (most?) cameras that are not L-mount. So discussing the popular M and Q cameras in an L-mount forum does not make sense. Maybe, like Panasonic S subforum, it should be renamed to Leica SL/TL/CL forum. But where is then the home for the Q and M cameras?

We have another post also asking to be split - but wanting (I think) a separate forum for the x-Lux and other types. So, tell me what the options are - what should be in separate forums and what should be combined?

IMO, Leica top level with subforums:

    • Leica L
    • Leica M
    • Leica Qx
    • Leica Compacts

The nice thing is that you can view the "merged" subforums by clicking on the top-level name.

An excellent start. Now, does anyone disagree with the above?
