My generation is pronounced generation zee but I agree we should be saying zed.
I'm happy to stay on this site, its much more engaging than DPReview.

Zed just sounds so funny. 😀
According to Oxford Languages it is "Zee 8".
I'm starting to agree with this. And when I posted a link to someone that had a petition online, I was told it would never affect the outcome, and /or Amazon wouldn't change their mind. Since then we moved from closing and deleting, to closing but keeping read only. As I said, starting to think it's not going anywhere. Though the petition may have had nothing to do with it, but who knows?
Apparently any english words that have z in it. E.g. Customize. Was actually the original english spelling. Then we emigrated to the US, they kept the Z spellings and we changed to the S E.g. Customise.
Not all Gen-Zed/Zee are dull we do learn some things about history 😀

Yay… me too. lol
Despite my initial scepticism, I'm also slowly starting to backtrack a bit and consider it actually possible that Amazon may either be negotiating selling the site with some party or actually deciding to keep it in operation themselves after all. It's been a month since the initial closing date and it's hard to think making the archival preparations would take this long.
As for the poll, I'm in the camp "might as well haunt both in that case".
I think the camera comparison tool should be keep as an stand-alone website. For the rest of DPR I couldn't care less if it is gone. If they stay (which I think will happen) desperately need a new video host, Richard Butler totally lacks the charms to be a Youtuber.
Maybe it has been shut down and the computers running it have been paid to be on for a while yet. I don't know. Amazon probably have 100000's of computers and they missed the DPReview site computer.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I wrote this (on another thread, where it is hard to find anything):
That said (written), I think this site is developing very well and I hope it continues to thrive. I have already "met" some very nice, friendly people here, which I never did on DPR. I dont mean that all DPR people were nasty and unfriendly; but simply that the site didnt encourage people to "meet", however virtually!

It seemed to me that the minority fora were less confrontational than others; for example Sigma vs CaNikOny and Tech vs. Open or Beginners ...
... good to meetcha, BTW.
Happily stay here, visit dpreview for archives.
I no longer have an account on the old place, I voluntarily asked for it to be closed after being sandboxed for the first and only time. I do still visit as a lurker when google shows it to have the answer to an obscure tech question (which the forums inevitably do). If it goes archive only I'll still get those answers for older kit up to closure date.
I agree. Of course it is the nature of refugees who escaped together to make new friends in the location they escaped to. But the way this site is set up is more conducive to finding those new friends. The Threads view is a great avenue for finding interesting posts that you might never have stumbled upon at the old site. The subforums here are more permeable and don't contain us thoroughly into brand-based silos the way the old site did. And more interactions built across the silos means less tribalism and a more pleasant atmosphere.
I don’t know the how or the why exactly but it’s clear at this point that DPReview is staying on. Richard Butler wouldn’t be producing video reviews for DPRTV and promising further content and “updates” in due course if they were still just archiving and winding down; either Amazon have had a complete change of heart or someone else is in the process of buying the place (I’m thinking the latter since that would explain why they can’t announce anything yet).
You've noticed that too? It's funny how a UI difference can have such an effect.
I agree. I've wandered into the m4/3 forum (one m4/3 forum) as it showed a heading with BIF in it. Same goes for 2 or 3 other forums. On DPReview, it was basically all Nikon.
I also think lack of a gear list area is a plus. For years on DPReview I didn't have one, but fellows made a big deal of it, you don't own any gear and so on, so I laid everything out, probably 4 or 5 bodies, 3 Nikon exotic telephotos, plus the Trinity, some primes, took and posted a snap, and that was the end of that discussion. But I'd prefer no gear list.
