Will you stay if DPReview doesn't close?

Both, for different things.

Hard to beat the old site for archived camera data, important to devotees of used gear like me.

But so far the clueless bloviators are avoiding this new site and I really like that.

I’ll stay here because there are many things I dislike from that place.

They have been extremely vague with the status of the situation and it was supposed to shut down 3 weeks ago, so my guess is they will stay on business somehow.

A rather vindictive moderator banned me from a certain forum on a whim, in the supposed dying days of DPR. A post I made here, with the screen shots of this nice fellow gloating about my ban on the forum, got me a permanent ban from everything on DPR from another DPR moderator who it seems was not too popular.

So for me the question does not arise.

The atmosphere is much nicer here. 👍🏻
And I prefer growth to decline 😎

The old site is slowly losing breath. I voted both. Only issues I had was in the Nikon forum where I had some posts deleted by some very protective mod. Made me lose interest in posting there. Still this site have some miles to go but it's a great start so I think this will be the one.... And then FM for the a1 pictures. Crazy good stuff there 😉

With DPR being controlled still by Amazon, I just feel a community that is focused on photography and the tools rather than economic benefit is just a better fit for me.

Imagine being so vindictive of a moderator that they come here, read the post, then ban you there. And some wonder why we say that they aren’t welcome here.

There are some things on DPR that are not here, and I derived a lot of help from the reviews over 20 years. But I have to say that I feel more at home here. There is a better atmosphere, and I have made more contacts here than ever in DPR. I never fell foul of moderators there, so I dont know anything about that side of DPR.

Of course, there are unfortunately some obnoxious members here at present and they really tick me off; but we all know that and we can avoid them!

As I see it, this site is off to a great start and is going in the right direction.

There are a few things at DPR that I will miss - eg. some of the contributions to the Sony Cyber-shot Talk forum - but not enough for me to visit both sites. Therefore, it would be this site only

Clearly there are currently a few short comings, but the progress made so far and the hard work being put in by "The Team" fill me with confidence for the future

To me, DPR is past PNR.
I like moderation model here much more, though I'm very thankful to a few DPR moderators and stuff members who helped lifting bans on undeserving users and generally preferred truth to lies.
The only thing I will be missing is Studio Scene for new cameras. Though imperfect, it helped develop LibRaw.

Is this poll just out of curiosity or is this figuring into your business planning?

On April 11, DPR had not closed as promised. Then came the announcement that they would continue for an unspecified period. To me, that was jerking forum members around and leaving them in limbo.

So I deleted all their cookies and blocked them from posting more. I deleted as much personal stuff from the site as possible. Ashamed to admit to occasionally looking but I can't log in, post or click the 'like' button.

My short answer is that I will stay here. In the short time we have been active, I find this place much to my liking.

A little longer explanation, is that I would also participate there, but I would then have no qualms about speaking my mind about the moderation policy/behavior of the worst mods there. That would get me permanently banned in short order.

Well, I was there for a long time. And I am still checking a few forums over there on a daily basis. But only once per day now and not the several times per day prior.

I voted Both.

Here, I am checking several times per day. So, that tells that story. :)

The main forum for me these past few years is the Medium Format one. And there's more going on here than there is there. Not that Medium Format was ever a forum which had many posts in a day compared to many others. As you'd expect.

In media a key business concept is that what really matters is content, the delivery method is just a means to an end and it only needs to be good enough (think of cable, satellite, streaming etc).

In forums content is user generated so what really matters is the quantity and quality of the users. Assuming the UX is acceptable, folks will go where a large enough set of key community members hang out, wherever that is. DPR had a 25 year head start, everybody knew where it was, and it was nicely fine tuned by the end. If it shuts down for good it shouldn't take that long to catch up here, though there is a massive amount of work behind that sentence.

If it doesn't shut down, say for instance they just kept the forums and the database going, let me ask you this: if they gave it to your team and said 'it's yours, you manage it' - would you keep this site going?
