It is nice to be part of something since the very beginning. There is a sense of belonging impossible to have if someone joins a community with already 15+ years of existence.

For example, as soon as DPR made their fake "we are closing on April" announcement, at Fred Miranda forum start having conversations about how many DPR forum trolls would migrate and contaminate their space, etc, old member werent so excited about the idea of an exodus.

Like when someone moves to Japan from other country, no matter how many years one can spend there, he/she will always be a “gaijin”, never truly belong.

Over a few years, on about 3 or more occasions, I requested my account closed. Sometimes they did, or just banned me. Got to keep those stats up 😁
I guess that answers your question?
Should the pendants pot bangers & snowflakes here sufficiently p!$$ me off, I'll more than likely do the same again 😄😄

Edit -thinking about it a bit more, it was probably more the evangelical villagers with pitchforks that needled me the most.

I'm sure most of the dpreview moderators have been following with "interest" the comments about them made here on dprevived by some members. Most of those indicating they would go back or visit both would need to go back under different names.

I have little or no respect for many, not all, of the moderators there so I won't be going back.

No plans to go back, I'm hanging my hat here.

To me the CAMERA and LENS dropdowns were very useful. Being able to review two cameras side-by-side was great.

I haven't decided what I'm doing. I have spent time on another forum and I'm not certain if it's the place for me or not.

That just would indicate they are unfit as moderators…instead, just vindictive children.

Threaded view is more computationally expensive. After pseudo closure I stopped using it on DPreview - too slow after Amazon reduced resource allocation.

So far this forum is excellent. Fewer content-free posts. What I miss most is the red square on top right showing replies to my posts.

Any decision about whether or not I remain here will be independent of what happens at DPReview and completely dependent on whether or not this forum becomes a hellhole of toxicity. I have high hopes, and also concerns.

A big plus for me here is being able to edit posts later. I hope that never changes. I make lots of mistakes, sometimes not realized till later. There, after a short time or if someone does a reply it was locked forever. I'm here.

I have to add, never had any issues with their mods. Then as now my main interest is learning, having come back to photography at "old age" I need a lot of help trying to catch up. Helping has already been demonstrated here, for me personally.

I voted "both" but I suspect that even if the threat of closure is lifted for DPR, its decline will continue.
DPRevived on the other is shaping up very nicely and will I'm sure eclipse DPR's forum even if it keeps limping on for a while yet.

It is impossible to take much interest in a site that announces it is closing down imminently, and one month later has not fulfilled that claim.

I voted both but it really is something of a I don't really know for sure. Recently when I was doing some research on a couple of lenses, I found the user forums at DPR to be the richest source of information. So as an archive it's invaluable. But as someone who has started the weekly post of the Sunday Cat! for almost seven years (I can't believe it's been that long!) to a degree I would like to host it there because that is where all the past history lives. As a compromise, I link back to the final Sunday Cat! at DPR each week, and will continue to do so until the site goes away. (Or maybe switch to the archive for the link.) That said I think Sunday Cat! has done better here, perhaps because of the "threads" view which shows across the board activity and brings Sunday Cat! out of its silo, making it visible to more members, as well as the "categories" display which sometimes highlights it if there is a recent post. At this point it is both confusing and in an odd way, disheartening, that DPR is still "alive" but we were all chased away from it. Do they have any idea what they are doing?

    Hi,

I quit taking DPReview seriously about 3 nanoseconds after Phil sold it. For some years there, I was only active within a single thread. That being the Kodak DSLR one. And I had an alternative forum for that from Jarle Aasland over in Norway. Over time, of course, that forum on DP Review slowed to a trickle. But I picked up with the Medium Format forum when that was created.

Both of those are here, so that works for me. Otherwise I just eyeball the thread activity list and see what's going on elsewhere. Not that I'm ever going down another rabbit hole with something else. It's all very much a case of The Same Thing, Only Different as we say in engineering.

DPReview said they were closing, so if they don't do it now, there is a good chance they will do it sooner or later. Better to invest your forum time and energy in something that has a future like this, and not have all your posts abruptly deleted. But for photography content (reviews, articles, comparisons, etc) I'm sure we will all keep using DPReview while it is still available.

Considering they just release a new "DPTV" video review of the Nikon Z8 with Richard Butler as the host, and based on the comments he did, I don't think they are going to close.
