Their Q3 review is not of the same quality as it was done before.

It does appear they will continue in some form or other.

Personally I like the UI here much better. I like the Threads view so that I can quickly peruse the whole site for topics of interest in forums I don't normally visit. I used to browse other forums on dpreview intermittently, but the Threads view here is much simpler to use.

I suspect the toolset for here for future development as this forum takes on its own character is much richer.

I do find the argumentative side tracking in some threads annoying, but whatever. Its not going to kill me ...

I think that's the consequence of the thinned down staff, and likely facilities.

It's their initial review, which is something they have done for a few years now. Assuming DPReview stays on and they follow past practices it will be at least several more weeks, and more likely several more months, before their comprehensive final review gets posted.

I was comparing it to previous Initial reviews.

I don't know if I will use DPR again if it stays alive. Depends on what happens of course (for example who buys it), but I think a feeling of doom would linger. Will it close soon anyway? Does the buyer really see it as a long term investment or will they try to sell it again ASAP at a higher price? And so on and so on. A new owner probably also means changes. Changes we may or may not like.

To be honest, there were a lot of things I disliked about DPR as it was. I mainly swam in a friendly little pond. The big pond wasn't always that friendly.

So no, I doubt I'll feel like starting over at a new DPR. But it also depends on what my duckling friends choose to do.

I depends on what they can do with the slimmer staff. For instance, Rishi Sanyal is no longer there. It looks like Richard will need to do it all by himself.

It's like leaving an old girlfriend and getting a new one. Old one still looks pretty good, but not what she once was. She was as much trouble as she was worth, and her guardians are tyrants. Take off the rose colored glasses.

Hook up once in awhile as a side chick if you feel you need to.

And the best galleries, in my opinion, were by Carey Rose who left last year I think. BTW, their last "Q3 video" was terrible and depressing.

I was frequently disappointed by the lack of visual interest in the example photos attached to their reviews, which also didnt showcase the good and bad points of the equipment under review. The much derided Ken Rockwell often achieves both those aims.

I saw a post from an admin I hadn't seen before, Vladimir Bobov. Have you any information about DPReview staff changes?

Oops, never mind. I now see that post is dated long ago. So only Richard is left?

I agree .. but recent defections from our community has me worried that the community will split. A more ideal site would be a table and someone to bring us coffee and whatever as we discussed and argued over gear and process but then that would never happen and these forums are the best alternative ... I confess to being a bit of a performer. I need/want an audience and if that goes away I will too .... but that said I actually like this site and the management better and I can adjust to the changes that move required .. I really don't need Threaded if I know and can see the audience out there and I like sitting in the audience as others perform here ..... but they have to come to my show also--- applaud, boo ..give advise, whatever .... all are worth my staying .... If I see no one over the footlights I'll leave ..

Richard had made a similar comment previously, but I had no (easy) way of finding and citing it in answer to your question.

    Hi,

Just an update. I'm still on both.

But I have deleted bookmarks for several other DPR Replacement sites which had popped up in the beginning of the end for DP Review. One by one, those others didn't really take off as it did here. Including a site which I just found out today has the new name of The Site Which Shall Not Be Named. Ha!

Anyway, now down to two. Which may yet become one, but I'm seriously doubting that will turn out to be the case. Two is good. I like two. :)

I'm finding I check DPR once a day, but here it's a lot more. I did vote for both, but that's changed really quick.
