Looks like the site is still going..... but is committed to shutting down? Or have I maybe missed some news?
While it dilly-dallies, it's preventing alternatives like this forum from taking off.
Just a late-night rant from an old guy, don't take it seriously..... ๐Ÿ˜‚

Agreed. I've previously mentioned this in another thread.

I hadn't noticed - thought this was the only forum there is!

It is getting to be a bit pathetic. They should just say what they are doing. It doesnโ€™t take 5 weeks to back up a site.

    Hi,

The way I see it is they will not be shutting down. And we don't have a need to know the details.

The way I understood was that they are in the process of curating old articles, reviews and technical content to be archived and made available in read-only mode. I am assuming that rest of the content like the forum posts and comments will go away.

While that process goes on, they are publishing important news and I saw at least one new review. I have no complaints about it.

The latest update they posted says absolutely nothing. And the commenters interpret it as the site will not be shut down but continue as usual and are all titillated about it... ๐Ÿ˜•

I don't care anymore. If they stay on it won't be the same. I would expect the plug to be pulled any time at their discretion. I would like to see the site archived though. All of it, including the forums. More often than not when I google something I find the answer I need at DPR forums.

I think that's likely. The competitors to DPReview have always been essentially one or two-man bands. Part of the quality and quantity that DPReview could offer was down to having a staff that went into double figures at times. I doubt whether any new owner will continue to fund that.

What does it matter? If you like this site then stick with it or not. If DPR stays then that's great and I will use both sites, if not then so what!

The latest update doesn't even mention the archiving anymore which implies it is finished.

It looks like there is something going on behind the scenes to maybe keep at least parts of dpreview going.

It's pot. It's an old saying " ๐Ÿ’ฉ or get off the pot." Not pan. ๐Ÿคช

Could have been for a number of reasons, most likely the scatological emojji used in the title line.

    Hi,

I translated it to Bedpan. As in DPR is on its deathbed, so using a bedpan and not a chamberpot. :P

It can be either; your country of origin will have an influence.

Oh that is a total surprize, surely not! That never happens on dpreview!

    What did it say?

As a decades long aging lurker, I was upset by the news that dpreview was shutting down. I like this forum better and have not returned to dpreview (except for history). I hope this forum survives and thrives.

I think the DPReview saga has become rather an exciting drama; having had a reprieve, we're now waiting for the ax to fall or the sentence commuted. No one knows (or, more likely in this case, can't tell) the outcome.

In any case, thanks to DPRevived we won't be left adrift.

Nothing really - title was something like "Is DPR closing down or not?" (no pooh emoji used!), and asked the simple question, mentioned that it wasn't helpful to the community to be left in limbo (or words to that effect), challenged by a poster saying I did not represent the community, countered by me saying I had as much right to represent the community as any other poster..... then, because where I live, we're about 12 hours ahead of the USA, I went to bed!
No idea what was said after but when I logged on the next day, thread was gone. And they're sly.... message said it had been removed by mods or deleted by poster! It wasn't deleted by me. I was happy to continue the debate. It's probably on wayback machine but, really, who cares. ๐Ÿ˜€
