Stuff around the kitchen shot at f2.8 in extreme low light, handheld and on the kitchen worktop. Some items are easy enough to recognise.

It's my new 2-in-1 lens. I've taken it with me on 2 consecutive holidays since it was released. Sharp at largest aperture, so light (!) and fast to focus. A keeper.

Nice blend of abstract to the real objects. The 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 11th and last one are favorites.
Nice photos. I'm trying to decide which to take on a trip.... the 27mm pancake or this great 30. They are close enough in focal length they will yield nice images. On vacation, small and light, these days for me, means just that. The 30 is very light, though. I want to clarify the choice of these 2 "in the midrange." I will be bringing one of my 16's and my newly acquired 70-300.

I haven't used a 27mm but the focal length is very close indeed. I suggest you give your new XF 30mm a go on your coming holiday. In my case it's a no-brainer as I also photograph food and beer which in some situations are nice to be able to fill the frame with the subject.
Also nice that the XF 30mm being such a small and light lens you can always bring along another lens for something else.

@Meeces, abstract macro is exactly what I want to achieve. #2 is a crinkle cutter. #3 fork. #5 box grater. #11 whisk.
My favourites are #4 garlic press and #5 box grater.

Good suggestion about imaging food. I always do on holiday but if there isn't close focus I just shoot from further away. However with a dedicated Macro it would be a different story. I'll see what the 27 can do and then make a decision. Thanks,

I can't get the hang of not having a threaded view, but I think I'm responding to your comment about traveling light with the 30mm macro.....
I'd been using the 16/2.8, 27WR and 60 as a very light, multi-night hiking kit in recent years, and when the 30mm became available, I tried just taking the 16/2.8 and the 30mm.... a minimalist kit with macro in two lenses. I wasn't sure if I'd still prefer the 27mm FL, but found that the 30mm works for me.
I've found the 30mm a fine standard with close focusing - for me at least. Its working distances do get a bit too short as magnification increases - it's better somewhere south of 1:1. For day hikes when I'm not carrying a heavy load, I think I'll still add the 60mm.

Thanks for the suggestion. I purposely went out yesterday afternoon and shot close-ups of blooms and regular images. The 30 is light and a better lens because of the macro than the 27. I think it may be the 16, 30, and 70-300. That's pretty light and I want to have a tele even though I may not be using it. That's what suitcases are for. 😁
