    This greater yellowlegs blasted off when another one approached it from the rear.

    Perfectly captured take off sequence!
    Did you anticipate and press the shutter at the right moment or does the cam have some pre shutter release mode?
    On a different note: It was your fotography which made me take a look at NY via google earth. It's crazy how that mega city is surrounded by wild nature areas! Seems to be an excellent spot to be for birding.

    My camera dose have pre-shoot yet I rarely use it as I read the birds body language and can anticipate the blastoff.

    Not only are there great birding locations just outside of NYC, there are many inside the city including Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge and Central Park where Roger Tory Peterson did most of the paintings for his guides.
