    Paul,

It's nice to see your cormorant and egrets. Wow...you really got close to that cormorant.

This required a little creativity to enhance it by making a HDR photo. I don't have the software to do that. So are any of you able to take what I show here and make a HDR image? Would you be able to do that and show us what it would look like?
    .......

If you shoot in JPG it should be possible like Steve mentiones, but some settings may be different between camera's (Look in your camera manual)

If you shoot in RAW it will be different again.
I use the bracketing options under the camera settings:
    www.eos-magazine.com/articles/eospedia/what-is/aeb.html
Depending on the camera Custom functions you should be able to shoot 2 up to 7 frames with every raw image a different exposure setting
I would prefer to use a fixed F number so depth of field is the same in all images.
I do use Canon own DPP software, there is a function to merge the image into one HDR image (JPG)

    My approach is

    1. Shoot raw.

    2. Make sure the highlights are not overexposed (sometimes this requires exposure reduction by as much as 3EV from what the camera claims is optimum -- I use the built in histogram display).

    3. Process the results in PhotoLab 6, which is a non-destructive program. This allows the dark areas to be selectively lightened and any noise to be eliminated.

With the extremely bright sunlight that we currently have here, I find this approach essential. But I would emphasize that raw files are necessary: I cannot improve my older jpeg files much, because the dynamic range has already been compromised.

    Hi Digirame,

My take on your photo of Mt. St. Helens, I used photo 2 only and enhanced the picture using the graduation brush and graduated filter and a tweek on the colour adjustment. Done in Lightroom 5.7 my Lightroom for travelling, works extremely fast on my laptop.

    Dig,

You wouldn't necessarily have to make these an HDR photo.

If you go to your menu ahead of time (in my T8i, it's in the shooting settings [the one that looks like a camera] and choose submenu number 2 [Expo.comp/AEB]), you can set up auto exposure compensation bracketing ahead of time.

Then set your shooting mode to low speed continuos shooting. The camera will take 3 shots in slow succession at 3 different exposures and combine them into one picture without having to take your finger off the shutter button.
I've used that technique once or twice.

My manual says that RAW is not available for HDR shots taken in the Creative Filters mode. Pictures are saved as high quality jpg's.

    Mocha,

Thanks for the post processing. I hadn't tried anything like that yet, but that's the normal way I do it...try to get something to work with what I have. Later, I'll have to get some HDR software. I don't take a lot of landscapes, but I can see the importance of proper exposures to get a beautiful area like this to look as nice as we see it.

    Steve,

I changed it to low speed continuous shooting for my three choices for exposure and it did not merge the photo for me. Could you take a picture of your camera settings with something like your phone, so I can see what you mean?

    David,

Thanks. Your approach is great. I just wanted to try HDR and see what I get. It's easy to do with the camera. I think I just need software to merge the images.

Yes, they are used to people being around and it was just in the water next to the path I walked along.

    Dig,

I guess you were right. I went back and looked again, and it looks like I wrong. It looks like the combining three shots into one is only available in the Special Scenes - HDR Backlit Control Mode, and the HDR Creative Filters Mode.

Sorry about that. I should learn to keep my mouth shut.

    Steve.

    Steve,

Feel free to always help. I appreciate you helping. It's just part of our discussions. We learn things from them, even when we are right or wrong. Sometimes it's not even being right or wrong, but how we view things. We often like to do things differently also.

I was going to post these in the old thread as they were taken yesterday, but I'm just following the instruction to post here. I know it looks more like a river side catwalk but this is an outfit that is made from recycled material purchased from a charity shop. Who needs designer outfits 😀 the sun was out but i became over cast by the time my neighbour was free to take the photos for my portfolio.

    Canon EOS 1100D with a 100mm lens (I think he said 100mm).

Strange, once again I can't see your photos.

    Great photos mocha.
The burnet moth is the one we always look out for, every year when we go to Corwnall. This year we didn't see any, however.

    Hola Digirame,
I ran your 3 pics through my free copy of Skylum Aurora HDR 2019.
I used a bunch of completely automatic presets:

    "Smart Enhancer"
    resizedahdr1_smart-enhancer.jpg

    "Romantic Glow"
    resizedahdr1_romantic-glow.jpg

    "HDR Look 1"
    resizedahdr1_HDR-look-1.jpg

    "Foggy Morning"
    resizedahdr1_foggy-morning.jpg

    "Dramatic B&W"
    resizedahdr1_dramatic-B&W.jpg

As you can see, the processing was pretty rough on the pics, especially the "HDR Look 1" version.
In case anyone is interested, Aurora 2019 is still available for free, legal download. Here is my post about it on DPReview: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4672626
