Thanks for taking a look at the Mt. St. Helens pictures. I did also get a free download of Luminance HDR yesterday. I had to first create a HDR photo and save it as a TIFF file. For some reason I could not save it as a JPEG. Then IrfanView software let me save the HDR TIFF photo as a JPEG.

When I developed it with Luminance HDR, the resulting picture was OK but I thought what Mocha created was better. Mine looked close to what Mocha created except the sky and the mountains were a little brighter. So, I'll have to keep trying to use it. There were some other options to try and I may have not been doing it correctly either.

Those are some cool-looking pictures. I like seeing the landscape scenes of where you live or close to where you live. That would be neat to own one of those homes or cottages near the beaches or along the coast. 😀

TIFFs are lossless - that is, larger and higher quality than JPG, which is I guess why the program uses it.
I agree, mocha's manual result is the best so far.
To be completely honest, I don't think you photo really needs HDR treatment. I used to do HDR a lot, but now I only do it occasionally, eg. for situations with a massive dynamic range - a setting sun and a foreground.

I always shoot jpeg and raw, and generally process the raw file in PhotoLab. I adjust exposure, and perspective and noise when needed. Then I save as tiff and move this to Photoshop to crop and resize, saving as jpeg for this site. The whole process doesnt take very long.

I hate the losses of jpeg, which always pushes my highlights into overload.

If you dont want to keep the intermediate tiff file, you can delete it. PhotoLab writes a small file which remembers what you did to the raw file, and you can always return to have another go, as the program is non destructive.

If you don't hear from me for a while, it's because I'm taking another summer trip. David knows about it. I hope you all keep taking and showing those pictures. 😀 I have a ton more that I haven't shown also that I took recently. I have some more beach photos, pictures at the Rose Garden and more Mt. St. Helens images. Last Tuesday I found some more restored cars. Now I'll be off clicking that shutter again on a trip. I've been so busy. Take care everyone. 😀

Great shots! Have you thought of combining/blending those two? Seems to me the overlap would allow for some interesting processing experiments!

A Fistful of Cats

A couple weeks ago, a mother cat showed up on our doorstep with six little kittens in tow.
We thought we'd feed them until they gey big enough to go out hunting on their own.
They're funny.

It has been very hot in many places in the northern hemisphere this last week. Consequently, I myself have not been out and about and have not had any new photos to contribute. If the extreme hot weather continues next week, I shall dig into my archive, which is an option for all of us to fall back on.

Photobygms did not have to go far to find an interesting heron to pose for him, and give us proof of the basic flatness of the Netherlands. Nice photos with good light. Also one of three seagulls with very long beaks.

Mocha was still touring Cornwall and came across a handsome 200 year old castle that I had never heard of -- excellent photos of it and the flora and fauna close by!

I am still wondering where Steve T snapped the cornfield. He also wowed (or miowed?) us all with his kittens photo. Does he seriously think they will not want to stay forever, when he is so kind to them?

Digirame, currently roaming northern California, showed the results of his HDR experiments, of which we look forward to hearing more in due course. Mocha and Dunlin took his challenge to have a go at achieving better results with his Mount St Helens shots. Dunlin's smart enhancer version seemed me to be the most interesting so far.

More big birds (Cormorant and Egret) expertly captured without their knowledge by Fotoworld: the clarity on the feathers is outstanding.

Dunlin also showed characteristic views of the Cornwall seaside and sunset. I wonder if his and Mocha's paths crossed, though Cornwall is quite long, east to west.
