    Sort of a crosspost:

A few weeks ago and we didn't know for sure what the weather would be, the forecast was also a bit inconclusive.
It did actually turned out to be reasonable nice so we did enjoy a nice hike at the Balloërveld a heath nature reserve close to home.
Decided to hike light and took besides a Canon Eos R and RF 24-240 only our Canon Eos 1V with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM
Loaded the 1V with some Kentmere Pan 100
Developing was done with Ilford Ilfosol3 (1:9) at 20c and stand developing for 5 minutes (together with a roll Rollei Retro 80S)

Photos with the R and 240 I have already posted in an other thread:

    Photobygms,

Your photos remind me of pictures before 1960. Was it raining at the time for you? I was thinking about getting a Canon EOS R camera some day. What advantage would you find it to be over something like the Canon M50 Mark II that I'm using. I just thought it would be neat to play around with a full frame camera, especially in low light conditions. I liked the specs on it when I read about it months ago.

    @Digirame
Those photos are not that old 😂 We had luck with the weather that day, while we were outside there was no rain.
I never have used any Eos M series camera, only several APS-C Eos DSLR bodies through the years and switched to full frame after rediscovering analog again a few years ago.
I do like the smaller package and having full frame with the R versus 5D IV or my betterhalf her setup with the 6D II and a RP.

I took these about 8:00 PM last night. My wife tells me these are called "Rose of Sharon". They are a member of the Hibiscus family.
I was experimenting with Center-weighted Average Metering.
The first is in Manual Mode 1/60, f/7.1, ISO 1250 135mm focal length.

The second was shot in Av mode, 1/320, f/7.1, ISO 8000, 128mm focal length.

That T8i (or 850 in Europe) does have nice high iso results, seems that the Digic 8 processor does a nice job 👍

    Photobygyms,

The camera has a High ISO Speed Noise Reduction setting in the menu system: Low, Medium and High. It applies Noise Reduction right there in-camera.
I just have mine set at Medium.
It also has a Long Exposure Noise Reduction setting for exposures of 1 second or longer.

    Steve,

The total amount of light is about the same between the two shots. The only difference fhat I can see is that the buds are sharper in the second photo. Was this due to movement, or a different focus setting, do you think?

After a day of rain, we got a nice short spot of sunshine.

    David,

In the first shot, I had forgotten that I left the camera in Manual mode.

Most things I have read suggest that you set a shutter speed of at least 1/your focal length.

With 1/60th of a sec., which was around half of my focal length, I have to attribute the "softness" to camera shake.

If I had set a shutter speed to at least 1/135, it probably would have kicked the ISO up to 3200 or so.

    Hi Dunlin,

I've not seen any elderberries as yet, too soon for us up North 😕 although I've seen enough of Ragwort this year.

    Nice set.

    Steve1,

Those are nice Rose of Sharon flowers. I like how they stand out with the black background.

    Dunlin,

I'm glad you got some sunshine, so you could get out and take pictures. Your elderberry photo reminds me that it's time for us to pick wild blackberries in Oregon...yummy. 😀
