Taken some shots of stones... because of a weekly flickr group theme.

When I was a child I loved collecting stones and I knew quite a bit about those for my age. Gave up on it in my teens, but I feel like that there's still some of that fascination left.

Captured a Pacific Black Duck after an unexpected takeoff yesterday morning.

Luckily I was using a high enough shutter speed to freeze the motion but I think my panning was a bit erratic.

The duck didn't give any discernable indication that it was about to fly. One second it was lulling around with its mate in the water then suddenly up it went and flew behind some trees.

The mate stayed put.

Impressive shots - I like this one in particular. The green color on the feathers is stunning.

This time with almost fully loaded bagpacks (at least mine, my better half only took her favorite combo (RP with the 24-240)
We had finally a break in the weather we had for some time...Something with rain and more rain.
Still not perfect weather but good enough for a short hike. Between all the rain we went to another reserve with some heath, sand drifts and a small forrest.
We were surprised to see mushrooms this early in the season. (Perhaps due the weather)

Lately, I seem to be collecting camera equipment lol.

My other R camera is an RP, (so your wife had good taste) and I really still like using it but the R8 is my shiny new toy so currently getting all the attention.

Your stones are fascinating. I recognize the quartz crystals in the second photo. What type of stone is that in the first one? Last year, I collected a pumice stone in the Mammoth Lakes region. Other than that, I haven't recently collected many rocks. Mostly now I "collect" cameras and lenses, but someday it would be fun to be a rockhound again. 😀

I like the variety of photos, from 24mm to 600mm focal length. The fourth photo of the trees looks like such a serene place, like a really nice place to go on a walk.
