Do pumpkins (pompoenen) not grow in your part of the Netherlands?

Pumpkins do grow, conditions are right, but not a big and commercial scale, but with the increasing Halloween popularity there could be more to come

In both photos there's a nice color mixture, the first being orange, black and gray and the second a nice blend of purple, gray, silver and some black. What are each of those objects in the pictures?

I like your countryside scenes and the forested areas. In particular I like the fungus in the second photo. It dominates the picture with a nice foreground and super good-looking background...wow...that's terrific. Composition is excellent.

Aside from your zebra and cheetah shots, which are most excellent, I think this winery shot is a very good use of the foreground in a wide-angle shot.

Thanks. There's lots of Halloween activities this time of year. Each activity or event is often different. Apparently, it evolved from All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day. But I don't know a lot about it.

I also have to say that I like to take pictures of this Roloff Farm's "spooky" exhibit because of the low light challenges. I've been there previously. I took it during day time, but the surrounding forest canopy makes it very dark. They also had a dinosaur exhibit that was very creative too. They changed the location of the dinosaurs, so they were more out in the open next to the forest rather than being within the forest.

Were these shot in manual, aperture priority, or shutter priority? SOOC jpegs or edited raw?

Newbie question. Looking at the focal lengths used on the kit lens, could you have got away with using a 22mm f2 or 23mm f1.4 and shooting wide open? I know depth of field may be an "issue". It's situations like that I wish the M cameras had IBIS.

They were not taken fully manual, nor aperture priority or shutter priority. I set the ISO to auto and set both the shutter speed and the aperture. The reason I do it that way, is I want avoid any motion blur and with the aperture I want to control the depth of field. The lighting changes so much, that I wanted the camera to adjust for that automatically. I'm amazed how well this camera does in low light conditions for the price that I paid for it. These were taken as SOOC jpegs.

With the Canon M50 MKII I could have used another lens or opened the aperture a little more. Next time I'm in a situation like that, with the same lens I'll use F3.5 and 15mm FL. There could be more depth of issues using that, but I could try. The lens does have image stabilization (but not the body). There's more of an issue with motion blur with slow shutter speeds. The pictures were OK at high ISO using 1/8 of a second shutter speed.

I'm glad you like the 2bw pics. I've entered them into our local club comp, hopefully the judge will like them too lol.

Yeah I'd heard about the penguins so was keen to see them. Like Cape Town, Sydney also has penguins so it wasn't as surprising to me. Apparently these penguins don't mind a warmer climate so I guess the South African ones like the same climate.

Yes the ocean picture was in South Africa, somewhere between Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope lol. Can't recall exactly, but I did enjoy seeing the clouds rolling over.

Bird shots were few and far between as the other 8 people in the Jeep were looking out for lions and leopards. So I was ecstatic that I managed to get a nice pic of the roller.

The whale breaching was in Hout bay South Africa but was absolutely just luck as the whales we were monitoring were just "sleeping" and our time was up and we were heading back but happened upon another whale that was more active. Hopefully your luck will be in next time 🤞

These two photos were taken with my phone, as it was raining and I didnt have my camera on me. They depict children at the mall getting decorated for Halloween.

Thank you David, appreciate your encouragement. I'm really short on time at the moment so I'm trying to get in a few replies, I'll consider competitions later. I have seen plenty of amazing photos just in this canon thread so I'm sure it would be challenging.

That's neat to see the children get decorated at the mall. I'm glad you got a chance to take them with your phone. I haven't had to do that yet with my phone, as I often take my cameras with me. But having the cell phone as a backup has occurred to me to be an option.
