This weekly thread is principally intended for you to showcase your photos made with Canon cameras of all sorts: SLR, DSLR, Mirrorless, M-series, APS-C, film, etc. But any brand of camera will be accepted, including photos taken with your phone. We do enjoy reading an accompanying text explaining your photo and any special techniques you may have used. Comments and helpful criticisms on others' photos are also welcome: we can all learn something from each other. We look forward to seeing your contributions and new participants to this series of threads are always welcome!

A new thread for the following week will be posted next Saturday around 10 pm UK time.

Digirame and I will be active here and are sharing the hosting, but we are used to all joining in and commenting on others' photos.

    =====================

    Review of last week

Digirame showed us some neat long-distance photos of a cormorant and an illuminated and well-fed snowman. He also continued with his HDR experiments.

Steve photo of the pecan tree was framed very artistically.

Fotoworld's contribution was of a yellow robin and a goanna, neither of which I had heard of until this week.

Photobygms took us on another local nature walk and returned with some stunning photos.

Mocha was also showing birds: ducks and a swan, plus New Year fireworks. He also demonstrated his sofware method of HDR.

Bryan found a goanna climbing a tree -- pretty well camouflaged.

And a lovely squirrel from Dunlin.

There was some interesting information on the Canon G7020 printer from Digirame and Steve, which I dont think is available in the EU. (I admit that I only have a B&W printer!) I'd be interested to know how long the cartridges last.

OpenCube continued his abstract series -- now in his "blue period".

Ghundred's photos of old cars are beautiful.

Dunlin's HDR photo of fields and cows with what looks like the sea in the background is very impressivre when seen at high magnification.

Fireplace33 joined us and gave us his take on the Karlskirche at night. Plus a shot of Kärntnerstrasse. The shop on the left selling cannabis used to be the HMV shop!

Terrific variety this week. It is supposed to snow here tomorrow, so maybe I shall have something interesting to show those of you that have permanently sunny days!

Keep taking and sending them in!

    David,

I think in Europe, Canon's G7020 is known as the G7050.

it uses ink tanks that you fill from a bottle instead of cartridges.

it's advertised at 7,000 pages in black prints and 7,500 in color prints. The initial purchase comes with 2 extra bottles of black ink, or about 18,000 prints when you first buy the machine (the print heads need to fill up the first time you fill it up).

Normally priced at $379, it's on sale right now at $229. I couldn't pass it up.

Subject: Taking Pictures Around The Christmas Tree

I was able to visit the Christmas tree that I previously saw at night. People were taking photos next to this tree. I wanted to catch this action plus I got a chance to play around with the new Canon RP camera some more too.

David you are right those photos deserve a own thread 👍😉

We finally have a nice break in all the bad weather (too much rain) and the forecast is also better, less rain and more sun, but also a wind form the north east so lower temperatures. Seems that the winter is returning again, we actually already had some snow 😎

That also means we both wanted to enjoy the sun again after those rainy weeks.
Decided to visit National Park Dwingelderveld again for a hike.
After weeks with a lot of rain it's nice to have some sun.

For a change some more info on this National Park in the Netherlands taken from their website:

Let's not forget a few photos from our hike in the northern part from today:

    Photobygms,

That's wonderful that some of this area as been wooded for many years now, I assume due to conservation efforts. That's nice you had some blue sky and a break from all that rain. i like seeing that in your photos. A little bit of snow means it is cold and maybe colder in the days ahead. After many days of on and off rain, we may get snow in the valleys in about a week (but weather forecasters have a difficult time being accurate for that length of time).

That's great you were able to get close to some birds. It's easier to get close to them in parks because they may get used to people passing by. Plus the birds sometimes are attracted to people feeding them. I have never done that, but occasionally someone will be feeding them and I'll take advantage of that, by taking some pictures along side of them too.

    Steve,

I don't know...that cat looks outnumbered. I hope the cat made it safely back from the mission. 😀

    Simplejoy,

I assume the water drops are rain. Sometimes I like finding the rain drops on the flowers in the spring. I was out in the rain yesterday with an umbrella. It was cold and a little miserable, but unique photos can be captured at that time. I was a little surprised (but not too surprised) to see other people out and about without umbrellas. We photographers especially want to keep our gear dry (unless of course it's waterproof), so I always carry at least one pocket umbrella in my camera bag..

    Stig,

How interesting...are those people behind a mask or costume? The eyes look so real. Where did you take these pictures? Carnevali is Italian for carnival, so I'm guessing that there were real people behind the masks at a time of some celebration.

    Dig and Photobygms,

    It was a negotiated settlement.

The turkeys decided to "retire in strength" (euphemism for retreat), and the cat decided to give them a wide berth, claim the high ground, and unilaterally declare victory.

Dig, I was able to set up printing on the G7020 from my smartphone and tablet. Yay 😀

The weather has been pretty freezing at around -20°C around here last week, but I grabbed my R7 anyway and went out to a local light art festival and took a few photos.

This piece had heads with intricate changing LED patters. The building in background is Finnish Parliament house.
    img_7064_talking_heads_1920.jpg

This one became B&W without any need for converting it to such, since everything was effectively monochome in the first place.

After a year and couple of months of having it, I do quite enjoy using it to the point that it's effectively my main camera these days. I do take my other camera (5D mk IV) out for specific purposes such as very wide-angle shots of the night sky, but overall I've been pleasantly surprised how well it handles all kinds of miscellaneous photography needs. I thought I'd mostly use it for wildlife but it turned out to be a nice all-around camera too.
