This weekly thread is principally intended for you to showcase your photos made with Canon cameras of all sorts: SLR, DSLR, Mirrorless, M-series, APS-C, film, etc. But any brand of camera will be accepted, including photos taken with your phone. We do enjoy reading an accompanying text explaining your photo and any special techniques you may have used. Comments and helpful criticisms on others' photos are also welcome: we can all learn something from each other. We look forward to seeing your contributions and new participants to this series of threads are always welcome!

A new thread for the following week will be posted next Saturday around 10 pm UK time.

Digirame and I will be active here and are sharing the hosting, but we are used to all joining in and commenting on others' photos.

    Review of last week

As Usual, Digirame opened our gallery this week. With bell bottom jeans, which he was "shocked" to see in Washington State -- so far a unique sighting. His pink blossoms (cherry?) -- particularly the second photo -- were well framed against a blue sky. This is something that I tried to achieve, but failed earlier this spring, so congratulations are due. He also found an osprey -- a bird we dont see around my part of Austria -- two excellent shots with his telephoto zoom. Then back to Brewer's Blackbirds, who have amazing eyes. His later shot of Mt. Hood was well framed between closer trees.

Photobygms took advantage of the slightly warmer weather to visit his local National Park with some great lenses: lots of lovely greens with lingering browns.

Steve was testing his new ND filter and long exposures. An interesting scene. Curiously enough, I also bought an ND filter (1-5 stops) this week. My plan is to use it when the sky gets too bright, which happens sometimes when it is overcast. So far I havent had any chance to use it.

Photobygms demonstrated the use of his filter on Icelandic running water. As Digirame remarked, this picture is competition quality.

Steve is having a little trouble with a water leak, and was able to document the work being done to rectify this.

On Friday I had to go out at 6:30 am, which is very early for me. I debated with myself about taking the camera, but was glad I did. You see different things at that time of day around here.

Photobygms showed a couple of stormy-looking sea scapes at Domburg, which looks like an interesting locale on the map, with a mediaeval castle nearby.

Even though there are few members resident in this thread (the rest were having a ding-dong argument about something boring), the quality and variety of the pictures were first class this week.

Thank you for sharing your talents!

    David

    I just had a shock.

The moon is coming around, and will be a full moon on April 23rd.

The total eclipse we all just went through on the 8th was not the full moon.

That's kind of mind boggling to me.

Another nice day in Domburg, a bit chilly perhaps with 8c but the sun did show up. A perfect day for a relaxing stroll at the beach 😎
This time we only took our Eos R with the RF 35mm.

    Steve,

The whole world is mind boggling to me, that we have a sun that heats us and gives us light that is perfect for life as we know it. Mountains, water, trees, grass, flowers, animals, and people are all around us. So let's continue to take pictures of this beauty, a creation that only could come from the divine. 😀

    Photobygms,

First, I wanted to thank you for your photos that you took and showed on the previous thread (that I did not have a chance to reply before this new thread was started). I liked those a lot. Now, this continues with pictures of your coast. Wow...it's so beautiful. The pink/red/purple flower is gorgeous too. 😀

Oh, and I liked the castle and the plant life too. 😀

    Subject: McClaren 600LT

I was out taking a ton of pictures yesterday, so I've been so busy. While I sort through these pictures to share (and others too), I thought I would show you a McClaren 600LT that I saw yesterday. I had in my hand (as the passenger) the Canon M50 Mark II with the 55-200mm lens. So there was only so much I could do. I saw what looked like an exotic car. We don't see them a lot near where I live (almost never). I had to use the shutter speed I had in the camera. I tried to increase the shutter speed, but I wasn't fast enough as the car turned off the highway. But at least I got one. 😀

I hope you like seeing my first McClaren ever photographed on a street. Because the shutter speed was so slow, you can see motion blur in the background and on the wheel. I don't know if I like it or not. But it is what it is.

Acrtually, Digi, I think this is perfect as taken. It shows the car is moving at speed -- the wheels are obviously turning and the hedges blurred likewise, but not too much. The car itself is in focus and not blurred. I have actually never seen one of these cars, either in the US or here. I had a 1987 924S Porsche in Indiana and Michigan for 250,000 miles. It was too fast for US speed limits! When I came here I got a Porsche Panamera, which was a nice car for the Autobahn, but too big for the narrow streets here. Even the main roads in town have only 2 metre wide lanes. So I changed it for a Mazda Miata -- and still effortlessly beat everyone else off the starting blocks when the lights change! Of course, as I am always the driver, I have no photos of it moving!

Forgive me if I showed this püicture before.

@Digirame I do agree with david , It's a good shot. it show the movement and the car with driver are nice in focus.👍
@davidwien, The MX5 (Miata) is a more true drivers car compared to the others you mention. That's thing those Japanese engineers did understand. From the NA (first gen in 89) until the last one they are a joy to take out for a ride, I think I would have loved to drive one at the Stelvio instead our own two VW's that we own nowadays or my old Audi Coupe Quatro (2.3l. 5cyl) taht I used to have.

@stevet1 a very nice spring weather photo 😎

That's no hill for a mountain horse.

Actually, I was playing with perspective a little.

That's really a flat surface. It's just that the camera is tilted.

That Jeep should be able to climb that hill 😉
By the looks (round side turn signal light) it's a JK generation model X 👍

    David,

Thanks. I had only one chance to capture that McClaren exotic car and I was lucky that it worked out with the shutter speed that I had.

I read that the McClaren 600LT will go from 0 to 100 kph or 0 to 60 mph in about 2.8 seconds. The top speed is 328 kph or 204 mph.

I had not seen your Miata car photo previously. That's a nice automobile and is plenty fast enough (from what I read). It probably gets reasonably good gas mileage too.

    Steve,

It's nice to see the Dogwood flowers among the forest. I've been taking a crazy amount of flower pictures lately too. It's hard not to.... Where I live the flowers are bursting with beautiful bright colors.

    Steve,

In your tilted photo I like seeing all of that green. Are those grape plants in front?

Yeah, if that was a real steep incline, that would be tough to climb. I don't think that I would want to take a chance.

    Subject: Female Red-Winged Blackbird

Today I was out taking pictures again. So, that's the reason I haven't posted a lot yet to this thread. I was taking pictures of a landscape with my Tamron 150-600mm lens and a bird landed on a picnic table. It was cloudy so the exposure wasn't good, but I corrected it later during post processing. The bird quickly flew off so I could not make further adjustments with the exposure compensation. The background is a lake, so I did not have distracting elements. This is a female Red-Winged Blackbird.

    Resized800D-Bird.jpg
    Model - Canon EOS 800D
    ExposureTime - 1/800 seconds

    ExposureBiasValue - 0
    FocalLength - 600 mm
Lens Model - TAMRON SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD A011

OK, I'm back to doing more post processing. 😀 Oh, one more thing.... I could have positioned the bird better within the frame. I was in a hurry and I see that it could be improved a little. If you would like for me to do that later, please let me know. There's a little too much empty space on the left side. Thanks.

OK, I revised the bird picture...well quite a few times. Do you like this better?

I did give it a try too (more or less) 😋
Mallards or wild ducks, but these were not that wild, I sat down in front of the ducks and made a few photos.

    Photobygms,

Great! I'm glad there is another bird photographer. 😀 I see you used 56mm and 65mm focal lengths. The other day I took a photo of a duck at 99mm FL with my Canon RP. I approached the duck and spoke softly too it and it let me get closer. I think it was getting ready to jump in the water, just in case it didn't feel comfortable with me being so near. Sometimes it's fun playing around with the gear to see if you can do things differently, like taking pictures of birds at short focal lengths.
