    Dunlin,

Thanks for the reply about the wind mills. I'm glad you liked photo no. 13. These structures were amazing to see.

It was easier for me to take pictures from a moving car on the dry side of the mountains. On the wet side, we have so many trees that can make it more difficult.

    Simplejoy,

Thanks for sharing with us the information about the "fire bugs".

We will have raspberries, I know because the bee is here to pollinate. 😊

Thanks for your trip photos, Dig. Many of the shots remind me of western S. Dakota. If I were a geologist that might not be as much of a surprise to me.

We have “wind farms” here on the road to Hungary, where it is quite flat. I also remember seeing a lot in Scotland 20 years ago.

By the way, I was shocked to read this morning that pumping your own gas is still illegal in Oregon at the moment!

As I recall, most of it is flat, and some of the reclaimed land is below sea level!

Many thanks for this info, SimpleJoy. I dont understand why I have never seen these insects before. Are they generally advantageous to a garden?

Nice pictures, both of you. Raspberries are my favourite fruit, but I have only seen red ones. Unfortunately, they are sold year round here, and the imported ones in the winter are not worth buying.

    SteveP,

That's a nice photo of the bee. They are hard to catch in a photo. I've done it a few times, but they move too fast.

    Simplejoy,

That raspberry looks yummy. We have wild blackberries where I live in Oregon. If I remember right, the best time to pick them is sometime in August.

    David,

Thanks. I've been to the Black Hills of South Dakota on the west side of the state also, including the Badlands. That's an interesting place too.

Yes, the attendants pump the gas (petrol) in Oregon. I believe the reason they do that (and not allow the consumers to do that), is that they didn't want to take away people's jobs. We are spoiled in Oregon to have someone else pump our gas.

    Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

It was strange because they usually spend low tide in the harbour catching fish etc. in the small pools left by the outgoing tide but this time they had decided to stay in the estuary probably because some where nesting.

    Thank you!

Many thanks. I love raspberries as well. You're right about the "imported, year round" ones though... they're not great. Usually the ones I capture are from our garden though.

    Here's one from this year:

    Subject: Bateman Island

On the way back from our Montana trip, we stopped in Kennewick, WA. There nearby is Bateman Island along the Columbia River. I hope showing 16 resized photos is not too long. I had two more, but DPRevived doesn't allow it (to show more than 16). With the computer program I wrote, I can now load these pictures quite fast with the EXIF data (which is a little bit more than what DPRevived is showing). Part of the trick is to set up the images in a separate folder, where they are organized in a certain sequence (to your liking).

Photo No. 1 - We can see Bateman Island. I'm standing somewhat on the south side, looking north.
    Resized1DPR2-126.jpg
Model - Canon EOS Rebel T7i
    ExposureTime - 1/800 seconds

    ExposureBiasValue - -0.33
    FocalLength - 55 mm
    Lens Model - EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

Photo No. 2 - We see this pedestrian "bridge" on the left side that links the main land to Bateman Island. I'm not sure if it's natural or man-made. I suspect that it's man-made. A lot of people that are here, are fishermen.
    Resized2DPR2-130.jpg
Model - Canon EOS Rebel T7i

    ExposureBiasValue - -0.33
    FocalLength - 55 mm
    Lens Model - EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

Photo No. 3 - Standing on this "bridge" as we look east we see more storm clouds.

    ExposureBiasValue - 0
    FocalLength - 18 mm
    Lens Model - EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Photo No. 4 - Looking in the opposite direction, we see more of the same...lots of clouds.

    Lens Model - EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Photo No. 5 - Now I took a path to the north side of the island. I wanted to see the magnificent Columbia River (which by the way, starts in Canada).
