    My two cents

I posted on late Tuesday (UK time) and was already finding it difficult following the interaction of posters, I think a monthly posting would become a "turn off" for some/most people as looking at current traffic we would be reaching 400+ posts per month.

100 per week as this thread has achieved is fantastic going, lets not restrict the growth.

OK. The response has exceeded my hopes (it is greater than threads for other camera makes!) and, based on comments here, my revised plan is to start a new thread every Sunday. Let's try that. If that still makes the threads too long, we could consider starting a new thread after each ~100 postings.

Agreed. Thanks to all for contributing such interesting photos and comments. Dont stop!

OK, I'm cheating here. I was out on my bike this afternoon and saw the chestnut trees in bloom. I only had my phone with me, so this isnt up to the usual standard I try to achieve. This is the Hauptalle in the Prater -- a large park between the city of Vienna and the Danube. The road, which is closed to cars, etc, stretches in a straight line for 4km and there are horse chestnut trees all the way along on both sides.

Thanks for your kind words. I know it's not Canon, but the rubric on the first page does say that other cameras are accepted. I agree that a phone is pushing it a bit; but I promise to take my RX-100 with me next time I am out on my bike! 😂

I was just in a parodic mood 😊 personally I dont care at all from which brand an image is coming, it is about art and aesthetics more than anything else.

    David,

That looks so nice. Spring with the fresh green leaves is so inviting on a warm day. I'm glad to see your non-Canon photo. I figured Ray was kidding about non-Canon when I saw his first reply. Of course any brand is welcome. I often carry my cameras with me when I go outdoors to parks etc., but not always. I know I have my cell phone as a backup and won't hesitate to use it, if there's something I want to capture.

    Ray,

I agree. I've used six different brands. The challenge is find that subject matter and then to be able to present it in such a way, that makes it look good. That is our art or as someone famously said, our "instant painting".

    Pretty good from a smartphone.

Although the original was a jpeg, this is not straight from the phone: I did gussie it up in PhotoLab, etc...

Unfortunately, rain is forecast for the next few days, so I may not be able to give you a comparison with a real phone.

    Subject: Bird

We have had sunny weather lately, so I had to go out this afternoon with my cameras. Here's a bird I found. I'm not sure of its ID. Is it a female Brown-Headed Cowbird? Does anyone know?

Named that way because they swoop down and pick up cows ???

    Dunlin,

Thanks. This female bird was light brown in color. My book of Oregon birds shows the female a light gray color in a picture, but describes it as being brown. I did see what looked like a male Brown-Headed Cowbird, so I thought it might be the female.

From authenticated pictures, I think it is possibly a Brown-Headed Cowbird, but it looks rather younger than the photos I have seen. I have never seen one in the flesh. whether or not I am right, it is a nice picture.

(Rainy and miserable here today, as predicted!)

    James,

Thanks for the reply. My book of Oregon birds describe that at one time Cowbirds followed herds of American bison to feed on the insects. So, I assume that when cows replaced bison over the years, that the Cowbirds followed the cows for insects too. The technical name for that bird is Molothrus ater.
