David, I was intrigued by your picture of the horse chestnuts. I was reading that they are toxic, but other types of chestnuts are edible. I think I've seen chestnuts. They fall all over the ground from the trees, if that is what I saw. They seemed plentiful.

David, that's excellent. I was reading up about the Canon RP camera. How do you like it? It's supposed to be a relatively small full frame mirrorless camera, if I remember correctly. It wasn't too expensive (at least relative to some other Canon R series cameras). How does it compare to the Canon M series cameras? Have you used any of the Canon M series cameras to know the differences?

I never tried much macro photography but after being inspired at the time (2007) I did like to make fun of myself through the means of morphing/fitting myself into small objects. Unfortunately I did not have anything Canon back then as the equipment at the time was a Fuji s9600 bridge camera, sorry OP 😇

    Dig,

There are two types of tree that are called chestnut trees: horse chestnuts (poisonous) and sweet chestnuts (the kind you grill and eat, and are sold on the streets here and elsewhere in winter). Mostly, as you have, I have seen the poisonous ones growing in the wild. The outer casing of the edible type is more furry. Wikipedia has more details! :)

    Dig,

The RP is a little smaller than the R6.I have never encountered an M series camera, so I cant say how they compare. The RP is full frame and has some useful scene presets. I might have been happy to keep using it, but when I got the R6 I found that the controls are easier to use, so I use that excliusively (apart from the Sony RX100 Va, the placing of whose controls I can never remember). RP prices are very competitive at present.

The other disadvantage of the RP is that the sensor is exposed when you turn it off and remove the lens. This must be why there are two blemishes in the sky (above the telescope) on my latest monument photo. (This is not the end of the world, as they can be cloned out easily, but I forgot to do it in this instance!)

That's a cool effect, Ray! I never tried anything like that. How did you do it? I have had to give up Coca Cola, as it is bad for my health!

Wow Steve, that's very impressive. I didn't see that coming.
My foreign language skills only go as far as some Spanish and a smaller amount of Latin. I am actively learning both, though.

Thanks! It isnt that hard to do really. First I made a selfie via the timer, with the camera set above my head on the bathroom closet with the shower curtain rod in/before my hands/face. Second I made the capture with the can sorta how I had envisioned the final composition, tinkered with both shots and made a few different captures until I had two that matched in wb and sharpness. Then downsized the bathroom picture until the size of my head fitted the can opening (somewhat convincingly). And then added the downsized selfie to the can image as an extra layer behind the can layer after which I aligned them exactly with my head behind the can opening (with the can layer at 50% opacity/see through) and then erased the pixels in front of the selfie in such a way that my hands seemed to be around the edge of the can instead of the curtain rod.

Took me quite some time to do it but it still puts a smile on my face so was worth all the tinkering I guess 😊

Bad habits yes, at the time I had multiple as I smoked an entire package of cigarettes every day, drank multiple cans of coke and ate away everything to taste but eventually I traded it all in for fruit/veggies, sports and clean air after I started to loose my health because of it.

    Dig,

If you look at my horse chestnut photo, you will notice that it was taken at f/22. Can you see diffraction?

We have them over here as well but I dont know if it is the exact same species, looks like it. I did also look them up just now and wikipedia says the plant sits in the same family as the Asparagus (Asparagales), never would have guessed so.

Ray, that is terrific seeing you come out of the can. 😀 That's very creative. Before my DSLR and mirrorless-interchangeable-lens-camera days, I was using Sony, HP and Kodak P&S cameras.

Dave, is it easy to clean the Canon RP sensor with a blower? Does it have in-camera sensor cleaning? Since all of my five cameras have in-camera sensor cleaning and I leave the lenses on, I have never had to clean the sensor. A few times I saw some spots, but they went away on their own (I suppose by the in-camera sensor cleaning).

Thanks Dunlin. I have been at that tulip farm for a number of years. I was prepared this time with a lot of cameras.
