Now that I've taken a closer look at the image, I can see that the reader is inside a medieval military fortification.
These fortifications were used to defend against invaders and provide refuge for local populations. Now the "invader" is different, but so many centuries later it is still doing its job.

Sagitarius, allow me to comment a little critically on your photo.
The exuberance of the color immediately catches the eye, but it seems oversaturated to me (look at the red shirt).
It's too flat (it looks like exaggerated HDR) and lacks the contrast to give it more volume.
Asymmetrical, if your intention was to highlight the side pulpit, it didn't work because my gaze goes to the altar and the composition is unbalanced.
River pier
It is now a pier for tourist boats only. At first it was for boats transporting port wine from the production area to the aging and bottling cellars in Vila Nova De Gaia. These boats are the ones you see in the foreground. They used to go down the Douro River (about 100 km), taking advantage of the current, and up the river, pulled by oxen from the river banks.
The method chosen will not change the number of visits.

When I edited the photo on a large monitor, the top part of the image looked fine to me, but now that I've seen it on my smartphone it also looks a bit dark.
I've followed your suggestion and I've followed your suggestion and lifted the shadows, (just a little) as I was afraid it would take away from the importance of the other insights in the composition. Link from the new edition.

There are many street cats with the tips of their ears cut off, which indicates that they have been sterilized and vaccinated by veterinary services (right ear if female and left ear if male). The cut is made under anesthesia during sterilization.
But we also know that cats are quarrelsome and this could be the result of a fierce fight.

I imagined a process that is very laborious and I wouldn't have the patience for it myself, but if you do...
1 - It has to be a long exposure, maybe 20 to 30 seconds (you need an ND filter)
2 - Set the lens to manual focus and make two marks on the ring, one for the scene and one for the glass.
3 - Set the flash to fire on the second curtain.
4 - Start the exposure without the glass and with manual focus on the scene.
5 - A few seconds before the end of the exposure, you quickly position the ring on the focus mark of the glass and put the glass on.
6 - Wait for the flash (which will only illuminate the glass) and you're done.
If you're very lucky, everything will be fine on the first try.😀
