    There is clear joy here.
The woman in red is enjoying the talk of the craftsman, explaining the workings of his ancient machinery.
(We seem to have a theme going on, spanning weeks, where women in red are the character of the tourist exploring.)
The miller is equally enjoying himself with the explanation that he has undoubtedly given countless times but does not get tired of. (Having the attention of a beautiful woman always helps, I suppose.)

Like you said : it is a moment in time. But an enjoyable one.

Yeh, they were chatting, being flirty and I saw an opportunity and jumped in and took the photo.

@MikeFewster makes a good point, the subject isn't totally clear. Clear to me of course, I remember what I saw and why I took it.

It is a place maintained for educating people about the purpose of Dutch windmills, like Colonial Williamsburg in the USA or Louisbourg Fortress in Canada. I was exploring this one after the gentleman demonstrated how peanut butter was made (on the right). The tour guide, in red, gives this tour frequently so she knows the guy, work colleagues in a sense. After the demonstration we, the tourists, are free to wander while they chat 'by the water cooler.'
Their body language told this story of how they had crushes on each other but had never said anything. They talked an laughed and tried not to send signals of interest even though they were clearly interested in each other. She's telling a story that isn't quite funny but she loves telling it to him and he is ready to laugh, to be empathetic to whatever she's going to say. She's a little blurry because she was animated as she was talking.

I had setup my camera for architectural images, big depth of field and slow shutter in a relatively dark space. I just didn't want the moment to go buy and be lost to the aether forever.

I can't figure out whether to title these images, explain them or just let it stand for itself.

Re titles. It is always a dilemma and there is no always correct answer. Sometimes a title is witty and the title is enjoyed for itself.
Sometimes A title can result in tunnel vision and confine the viewer's response. Of course, what one viewer might find confining might not be seen that way by another.
Sometimes a title is needed to give a clue that assists the interpretation.
I wouldn't worry about it. Add titles as it feels appropriate to you.

I needed the title to understand what I was looking at. Then I was able to make some guesses.
It reeks of old wood and old and heavy machinery. The grinding wheel? I think that is what it is, is especially impressive.Your color range appropriately suggests age and warmth.
After that, I think there is a bit of a problem. Is it a contemprary portrait of a couple, a vistor and a tradesman, or a study of the mill? The interaction between the couple seems totally divorced from the mill setting. As it stands, they might be on a bridge, by a river- the setting feels irrelevant. At the same time, the girl, while looking happy, doesn't appear to be communication with the man - although he is looking at her.
In conclusion, There are a number of elements in the picture that offer opportunities but here I don't feel that they are "gelling" into one story for the viewer.
Of course, if the shot was taken as a record of a particular person and their visit to a particular place and the image was made to share that moment with friends, that's a completely different scenario.

So simple with so much! A good example from the school of thought that thinks visual art need not be set within standardized borders but can be framed within whatever proportions suit the image. A triumph in a taller, narrower frame.
It feels perfectly balanced while the components are offset. The wider black of the right has fewer strands than we have to the left but the black emphasizes them. The bent grass on the right is a foil to those on the left and the slope of the greenish rectangle. The 3 short right leaning grasses at the very base assist the bent grass on the right in giving balance to the tall grass and the left leaning grasses.
    It glows.
It can be explored up close with interesting details along the stems.
    A very special image.

A further homage to bricks and bricklayers
Some months ago I posted a series on the use of bricks in Italy.
I spent this morning on my first ever brick construction, Preparing for a very simple little BBQ. I was ruefully reminded of the brickwork I had seen in Italy.
My admiration is limitless. The following three are all from Bologna.

    Brickwork Bologna 1.jpg

    [Brickwork Bologna 2.jpg]

    Brickwork Bologna 3.jpg

    An interesting little series brickwork.

The first celebrates the brickwork as a strong but unusually decorative medium. The diagonal of zig-zag walls is appealing, especially shown against the arch shape, but it is the patterns made from bricks jutting out of the wall, which really lights up the image.
The second shows the raw power of the bricks forming the tower, rising ing defiantly, helped by the low angle of view.
The third is intriguing. A slick looking Art Deco(?) frontage, with the word “Modernissimo” in contrast to the old brickwork. Below that is a word in a puzzling reverse, without any obvious reflection to cause it. Then a reflection of medieval brickwork. An image which poses riddles. Nice.

    Pete

Thanks Pete. From my many pictures of brickwork in Italy, these three were grouped together for exactly the reasons you saw.
Re shot 3. The Spanish fashion house Desigual plays games with their name/logo. sometimes the U is inverted to become an n. Sometimes the S is reversed. On this store, it isn't a reflection, the have reversed the whole name. I was amused by the art deco modern, the logo reversal and the reflection from a different era.

That's more guided missile than insect. Usually the transparent wings with lacy veins are a feature of dragon fly shots. You have taken them out of the reckoning. Further, you have used bokeh to remove the background and replace it with smooth screen that shows off the dragonfly and nothing but the dragonfly. The sensation of speed is emphasized by the downward trajectory.
Unusual and most effective. What were your camera settings on this shot?

    MikeFewster,
I've looked at your photo several times and honestly, I don't know how to make a photographic comment.
I'll give you this challenge: If this photo wasn't yours, howould you comment on it photographically? composition, framing, aesthetics, meaning, etc. etc. ...
    [/
Which post of mine are you referring to? The initial post for comments is of brickwork in Bologna. The wheelbarrow photo is a continuation but needs to be read alongside the original post. The wheelbarrow image wasn't intended for C&C. This is one of the problems with a flat view thread organization. It is difficult to see the development after the original post.

Heat won't be a problem. I'm cheating and using a found large slab of polished granite that will sit on top of the piers. Then a Weber Baby Q will sit on top of that. Now that I have mastered bricklaying, I will go one better than the Bolognese and the bricks will be rendered to blend into the house walls.

    Hi Mike,

I hope you are using special fire Bricks with heat resistant properties. Future generations will appreciate greatly long lasting creation of yours. Show us the final product, eventually. I admire your creativity.

Awestruck by the Renaissance and Roman brickwork skills, I have taken up the trowel. Today's progress on my BBQ
In 2000 years tourists will still look at this with wonder.

As a boy, I enjoyed browsing picture books of foreign lands, fascinated by the unusual architecture, colourful costumes and customs. When I was finally able to travel, I was disappointed to find that the buildings had become western, even the shops were the same, except for fewer and fewer noteworthy survivors. But most disappointing of all was the almost complete disappearance of local costumes. Just jeans and T-shirt, the same as me.
On my recent trip to Bhutan, I was delighted to find that was not the case. Most men wore the traditional short tunic with knee-length socks and most women wore the traditional skirt, made be winding a length of cloth around their waist.

As a travel tragic, I agree. What's the point of traveling to places that are interchangeable with home?
The position of the figure at the extreme corner is unusual. The red skirt helps in making her a subject. She looks, and her elbow points, to a building with a roofline that raises questions of place. The river then takes us to a bridge where once again another structure asks questions.
it succeeds, we ain't in Kansas now.

I like number 2 of the second series best of all. The vertical bird in your first post is good but the capture with the head submerged is one of those glorious moments you could spend years trying to capture. Incidentally, the colours in the original post look quite different to those in the follow up post. To me, post one looks oversaturated.

    3 Bridges

Agreement between municipal, provincial and federal governments resulted in creation of a massive $1.5 B flood control project where Don river meets Lake Ontario. In order to facilitate grand landscape development 3 sets of bridges were constructed. Designed in UK, engineered in Germany, manufactured in Holland, assembled in Nova Scotia and brought on barges to Toronto for final installation. There is still a lot of construction around, but bridges are open to vehicular traffic, walkers, runners and bikers. I could have spent hours there, but I think return trip in better weather is a must.

Paper is equally wonderful as it is frustrating, when being used in my macro experiments. I can imagine a great number of interesting arrangements and compositions involving shapes of paper, think of transformative ways to illuminate it, combine it with other materials, I enjoy its texture and how it behaves when its folded or crumpled... and yet when I try to do anything slightly advanced with it, it regularly makes me throw in the towel after some tries, or at least compromise my initial ideas heavily. So when I recently decided to use paper once again (due to a theme on flickr) I decided pretty quickly to keep the ideas rather simple. Turns out this wasn't such a bad idea. Here's the one I used in the end:

Lots of kudos for highlighted water that takes us into the birds. The continuation of this line into the darker shape behind is totally masterful.

    SEVILLA - PLAZA de ESPANA

Plaza de Espana is one of the tourist highlights of Sevilla.
If you are interested in the history and meaning of this (actually fairly recent) Plaza and its architecture and symbolism, you can find lots of information online.

For our long walking day in Sevilla, we had no preconceived itinerary.
So it was almost by accident that we ended up on Plaza de Espana right at the best moment of the day as far as light is concerned.

I made some cracker shots with my telephoto and wide angle lenses on the E-M1.
But those shots are still miserably confined to my hard drives, waiting for a closer look.
The old iphone (still using an 11Pro model) did not do too bad, fortunately, for this "preview".

Sevilla Plaza de Espana by RoelH on iphone - IMG_9311.jpg

The repetition of arch shapes on the building, the bridge and inverted in the reflection, makes the shot. Add the verticals of the posts and on the building facade. The foreground boat is positioned to make the most of the silhouette against the reflection. It all comes together.
