    Hi,

Keep on keeping on there kitty. Our Frisky is almost 19 now. She's frail and I've been keeping her going with a high protein wet food for the past year. Only issue is, she eats only a little at a time. So I have to feed her 6-8 times a day. That means Mom and I cannot take any trips together where we are gone more than a few hours.

Mom is heading to Florida soon for an arts and crafts event (she's a vendor). Normally, I'd go and shoot some more lighthouses with my medium format rig. Make a week out of it. But, I can't. I have to stay home and take care of Frisky. Oh, well. I'm sure the lighthouses will still be there later.

    Hi,

Yes. Yes they do known exactly what they like. :)

Here is one from this morning. Snowflake doesn't exactly fit. But that doesn't seem to bother her. And, being morning with outside temps below freezing here in February in North Carolina, the furnace is running. The hot air furnace. With a vent right there, which has the shortest path of ducting from the heat source. And a window facing East. And so add the morning sun.

Sorry about the crappy cell fone camera. This is what one gets from AT&T for free. They kicked my (own design from when I worked there) BlackBerry to the curb. So then they had to give me a replacement for free. They call it the Motivate. As far as I can tell, it's meant to motivate me to spending a large sum of cash for a better phone. Ha!

But I wanted to shoot her now, and not take the time to grab a real camera and take a chance that I'd wake her up

    Hi,

And then we have laundry baskets. With clean clothes in them as they return to the bedroom from the dryer. I swear Peanut here could detect the dryer stopping, without the buzzer, from the far side of the farm. And get back before I managed to get from the laundry room to the bedroom.

    IMG_20150514_140721.jpg

The only thing Mr Peanut like better was when I put things into the dresser drawer. He included himself, of course.

    Hi,

We have one like this. Frisky. Pushing 18. We got her mid 2005 from the local county shelter. She was 2-3 months old then. So, we know about when her birthday is.

What had happened is, Daisy disappeared. We live down on the river. Most of the farmland around here is down along the river. When we couldn't find her on this farm, nor the neighboring ones, we thought she might have made it the four miles downstream to town. And so maybe picked up and taken to the shelter. That was not the case as we found her at the fishing spot a few days later.

Anyway, there was Frisky in the kitten cage. Sitting in the back corner with her head hanging down. My wife immediately said we just had to take that depressed kitten home with us. Ok. Works for me.IMG_20201020_144258.jpg

That's a pic of her with Fred. Of course, Fred has also disappeared and no luck finding him. Your think from looking at them that Fred is Frisky's kitten. Nope. But she surely acted like she was.IMG_20201020_144258.jpg

Here is another pic of Frisky with Daisy.

Daisy went thru her last year sleeping more and more. And always looking for warm spots. And now Frisky has been on that road for the past several months. So I am hoping she makes it to 18. Daisy made it two weeks short of 17. And that's been my experience with cats all my life. 17-18 years.

    Hi,

Oh, Wesley looks like a cat a friend of mine had long, long ago. Named Max, though. Which is what brought this story to mind.

I worked with his owner, but this was my first visit to the home Max let him stay in. We all know how that goes! :P

Anyway, I sit down on the couch and my friend heads to the kitchen to get us something to drink. And Max jumps up on my lap.

My friend then proceeds to say: If I see the cat, leave him be, as he's anti social and will tear me up.

When my friend comes back into the room, I ask: So you have two cats?

Nope. I was just the first visitor Max liked.

    Hi,

You are probably correct there. And that includes me. If there are only photos, and no discussion of what is used to produce them and how to use the equipment, I'm not interested.

But, then, that's why I showed up at DP Review and not elsewhere in the first place over 20 years ago. My signature is missing here, so my position is not obvious. I'll manually add it to this post.

When we discuss digital photography it does not do to divorce the images produced from the camera that captured it nor the software that processed it. Especially the latter. I have made significantly different looking output from the same input over the decades as the processing hardware and software changed.

    Hi,

The unfortunate part is that the Medium Format folks all went back to DP Review before The Photo direction emerged. But that would still have a lot of gear chatter. We tend to post the photos and then chat about what we do, and use, to make them.

It's a different sort of forum than the rest.

But I don't see a way to entice those folks back over here though. It'd be a good fit here.

    Hi,

    Yeah. Stable.

Dead is the Kodak SLR Forum. The first page goes back to May 2022. But, then, that makes sense on its own and not Mod related. It doesn't even list any Mods. Doesn't need one. :P

Meanwhile the Medium Format forum rolls along quite briskly. That first page only goes back a week. Which is pretty darned good given the subject. And the Mods on that one are tops, too, all 3 of them. :)

    The Solution is Simple

This forum is a much more friendly and saner place. There are no crazed school prefect bullies here, using their little bit of power to make life a misery for the others.

DPR was the only place where I have had problems with moderation. They are there to sell camera gear, via adverts and such, so they want a cosy anesthetised enviroment for the consumer.

Quit the DPR drug and post on a forum like this. It is just that simple.

To strike a sort of balance, Cambridge In Colour was not so friendly towards technical posters when I was a member. One Moderator in particular was not happy being corrected technically. And the previous main Moderator was bombastic to a fault - anything not done his way was automatically no good.

As to DPR, the Sigma forum there remains calm with absolutely excellent moderation and is still well-attended - unlike the Sigma category here which is almost dead (through no fault of the Team).,

    Hi,

Same story with the Medium Format forum. No issues over on DPR and no activity here once everyone found out the old place wasn't shutting down after all

As to the other DPR moderation issue, seems to me that the root cause was questioning the moderation. That's a rule violation over there.

    GFX 100 replaced by a Mark-II Medium/Large Format cameras Jan. 2, 2024, 12:57 p.m.

    Hi,

I tend to agree. So many makes and models of FF out there which do more than enough for most people.

I think I could get by better with a 60 MP FF than I am doing with a 50 MP MF. Even down to the Pentax 645 lenses I already own. When I shoot MF, I tend to do so manually focusing and on a tripod. And there are adapters from P645 to just about everything out there. Many offer shift and some offer tilt as well.

And the P645 lenses still tend to sell on the used market for very low prices. So there is an idea for you.

In my case, no Nikon 60 MP class bodies yet. And that's important as I have many Nikkor lenses around here. So buying a Sony, say, doesn't really help me much. So I'll stick with what I have. And I have put off buying a 100 MP MF for what has become quite a while now. And, still no rush. My largest print size remains 16x20" and so no rush until I happen to update that.

And my reasoning for all this revolves around cropping the native aspect ratio to 5:4 for those prints. And I lose fewer pixels coming from 4:3 than I do coming from 3:2. And I print on paper at 360 PPI and textiles at 300 PPI.

As it is, my highest resolution FF camera has 16 MP so moving to the Pentax digital MF made the most sense from a cost standpoint. And I believe it would cost me less to add a 60 MP Nikon than to add a 100 MP Fujifilm. Only time will tell about that,.of course.

Anyway, the bottom line is maybe think about adapting MF lenses to your FF and so gain the benefits of tilt and shift when needed via an adapter.

    The famous Kodak DCS 315 (1998) Other Manufacturers Dec. 20, 2023, 12:53 p.m.

    Hi,

Yes. To both. Kodak preferred glass fiber circuit boards to flex film. And I don't blame them. So they have to go somewhere else other than in the camera body. Then, too, the battery pack.

Many of the Kodak models used off the shelf camera bodies, both Nikon and Canon. Some used modified bodies, such as missing the film transport parts. I don't know which kind the APS bodies were. Although I suspect they were stock film units like the 400 series were (not like the 600 and 700 series with their modified F5 bodies).
