I finally wrestled PL7 to the ground kicking and screaming and it is no longer polluting my image file with the sidecar files. There set up is not the most obvious around. But it works it seems.

You're welcome.
No it wasn't. It provided real data to compare software.
Sorry, I was in a bad mood that day ... being a grumpy 84-yr old man ...
Ha ha!
It was The post with the quantitative numbers on the three programs correct?

Yep, I'm a numbers guy which sometimes excites little or no response amid much discussion on how something "looks", grump.

I am a sucker for hard data too.
@AlanSh has written:I was offered a free trial of Luminar Neo, so I thought I'd see how it did. I also use Adobe PS and ON1 Photo Raw (I also have Capture One, but that's over a year old now).
I have a standard very noisy image that cleans up OK in Adobe Camera Raw and not quite as good in ON1. So, here's the results:I leave you to draw your own conclusions, but I'm not buying Luminar based on that.
Alan
Bear in mind that the color saturation is much higher in the Neo version, so naturally, that could make chromatic noise stand out more, even if it really isn't more.
What happens when color saturation is normalized? I bet they will be more similar than they are here.
How would you normalize color saturation, John?
I use the GIMP and can edit saturation-only in HSL or HSV ... or chroma-only in CIE LCH.
Then I could compare the degree of similarity by using 'difference' blending in Layers ...

Here's Neo vs Original compared with Neo vs Original (left) but with normalized Saturation in HSL (right):
I couldn't compare the degree of similarity by using 'difference' blending in Layers because Alan posted the images at different sizes.
The images were just screen grabs. If you want the originals, I can post them - but they may be on my system at home (I need to check) and it's shut down.
