When adding a post to a thread and including the post above (so quoting it), could the cursor be put at the end of the text and the view changed to show that. I've seen a few people put their reply in the middle of a quoted text - and that looks really weird.
Hope this hasn't been mentioned already. It's kinda limiting that the thread starter's name isn't visible on category page (or what it should be called). We just see the threads' titles, not who the OP is. Same on Threads page.
No hurry. But in the future this would be good to have.
Could you load the full list of threads of a category or split the view in pages if more than X (10,20,50) threads instead of showing a button "show more" at the bottom.
That would be much easier to browse than the current style.
Method for viewing multiple images from a single post. Currently each opens with its own click in its own window.
(comparable to what happens when you doubleclick a posted image) This might be what's being called a gallery.
Thank you
There are now quite a few very excellent posts and threads scattered thru the forum on photo topics of general interest. I think it would be most helpful if they could be accessible via a common topic header (not necessary relocated) for easy access by new members. Perhaps under the heading "Learning Resources"
Not urgent, but the ability to to include Country/Location in a member's profile.
Very useful if the answer to a question depends on where a poster lives, e.g. "How much duty is there on a camera imported from Hong Kong?" or "What is the law on photographing in a public park?"
Agreed. Moreover, I'd suggest that that info (where available) be shown below the user's avatar at the left of their posts to provide useful context while browsing the threads (rather than having to visit the user's profile and then return, each time one wants to check).
Among other things, doing that will underscore the broad global/international nature of the forum and discussions here. At DPR, the discussions sometimes fell into being "US-centric" in the absence of such a reminder --- which is one of the reasons I think it would be helpful.
Yes, that is correct, and I think gear list is irrelevant because people can simply add whatever gear they dream to have, who will know if they actually have it!?
I kind of agree, but some people like to share / show off their gear list. By having a dedicated section for this the mentioned gear can be kept out of the search index. If people add it to every post, like 'D850 - 24-70E VR', every post of that user will be found when someone searches for either D850 or 24-70 even if the post is about something entirely different. In the end this will make searching for relevant posts on equipment almost impossible. For that reason the signature on DPReview is also kept out of the search index.
I'd like to request that uploaded images are NOT tampered with. At DPReview the images are hauled through some process which makes them less sharp when they appear visible to the crowd. At least, when I tested this a few years back by uploading and saving the same image a few times the decay was clearly visible. If you save and load a jpeg in Photoshop a number of times there's hardly any difference.
I'm not sure if there's anything to gain by processing uploaded images, site safety perhaps, but IMO (which is always Humble and Honest :-) it gets a bit in the way if you try to have a technical discussion about image quality, like when comparing lenses.
