Hola Byan, thanks for the visit and the suggestion. Yes, I try to be restrained with post-processing, especially with shots of bugs and nature in general. It’s very tempting to be a bit more generous with colors and textures, but sometimes you lose a certain naturalness, the softer tones and many subtle nuances and fine details...

I agree that there can be a temptation to take things too far and when that happens detail and nuance may be lost.

I also know that some cameras, when set to neutral settings, have quite low contrast. Certainly my Panasonics always need a contrast boost.

Personally, I prefer shooting in RAW and "cooking" the image to my own taste. It’s also worth noting that the screen you view the photos on matters: I use an iPad exclusively—which has a bit higher-contrast display with a bit more generous color saturation—so it’s possible that on a more neutral screen, my photos might look a bit softer...
