    Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the announced shuttering of DPReview (which did not happen), the last Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Trichromatic Kitty of the Week!

    Street Cats of Istanbul

    This vivid kitty welcomes us and our kitties to 2024!

    As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

    “Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

    Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

    The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    The Kitties of 2023

    Thread Manager's Corner:
    It's been quiet lately but my hope is that new years' resolutions will result in more photos here. :) I myself have some photos to post, but they're still in the camera as I struggle in migrating Lightroom from my Win7 PC to Mac. I've successfully installed the subscription version of LR and moved the catalog and photos to the Mac, but my import presets are a mess because they point to the old Windows names. I still need to figure that out. :( Meantime, I hope some of the other kitties will step up and into 2024. ;)

    ~~~ Kim
    Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.
    I only use Camera Raw to edit individual photos directly in Photoshop.
    Or Lightroom to browse and edit photos in folders.
    I find importing photos into the catalogs time-consuming, which is why I no longer use Lightroom Classic.
    In Quick Preview I can view all photos pretty quickly.
    If you select multiple photos and press Option + Space, they will appear as a full-screen slide show.
    I really would like Lexi to learn to relax- ha - he finds a way when necessary.
    Have you ever awakened wondering where that pain comes from? I don't think
    Lexi has that problem- clearly flexibility is not an issue for a cat!
    Looks like a good nickname for him would be Flexi Lexi. :) They are amazing contortionists! We just have to admire them and try not to imagine the pain we might feel in trying to emulate them. ;)
    Ms Deer can now get close with humans (and cameras).
    Six years ago, if I point my camera at her, she would go away and hide herself.
    I was busy last week as I tried to use "GeForce Experience" and "AMD Ryzen Master" to overclock my GPU and CPU and accidentally caused BSOD boot loop 😅. Finally I cleared the CMOS of my motherboard and reinstalled Windows and all applications to fix the issue. That took me a few days.
    Ms. Deer looks very relaxed and quite comfortable with your taking her close up. :) She looks a little like a Persian cat but with short fur.
    I really like the unusual pose of this one. Looks like he might have been grooming and got distracted. The kitty's markings are quite special too. The strong but incomplete black stripes / spots on a bed of ticked grey fur, interrupted by an island of white.
    Kitty is finally getting to trust us...she now comes for cuddles and we can pick her up. She squeaks away at us too. Stripey still hates her with a passion though
    Thanks for the tips on viewing photos with Mac. I was really at a loss on this.
    I've really come to rely on the LR catalog. I like the keywording and being able to find all photos taken with a certain lens and such. Plus I'll admit I didn't want to learn anything new, at least where photo editing is concerned. Mac is a different matter. I chose to do that. My subscription includes Photoshop but I haven't installed it. When (or if) I think I'm ready to learn how to use it, I can get the download. For now, I think I've got enough on my plate to figure out! I ended up creating a new import preset and that showed me how file paths are done on a Mac, so I can edit my presets now. I tested one and it worked, but when I tried to export, I realized that the export presets will need to be updated as well! So, I don't have my pictures ready yet. At least I should only have to go through this once.
    She definitely looks like she's making herself comfortable! Perhaps Stripey and Kitty can at least strike a truce. That's about all I can hope for between Palmer and Mini-Me. Palmer does his best to ignore Mr. Me, which give Mr. Me fewer opportunities to be in his face. ;)
    She really does look like she's getting more comfortable! 😸
    Is she going to go by Kitty permanently, or will she get a name once she fully moves in? Not that Kitty is a bad name; I've known of at least two where that was their name: one on television (The Closer) the other was a neighbor's cat, known as Kiki -- the closest their youngest could come to "Kitty".
    Best wishes to all, both feline and human!
    Despite there being no "spirit cats" this year, on the whole I like these much better than last year. AI is progressing. The images look much more natural (except maybe Bodhi.) At this point it appears possible to have more fun, putting them into snow scenes that otherwise couldn't ever actually happen. (Or to which they might disapprove. 😉 ) I especially like Neko's portrait. He really looks like he is a wild animal curled up in the snow. And Bessie has such sweetness and longing in her look, along with a light dusting of snow on her head. It looks like Baby is a colorful new addition to the family. 😊 Thanks for showing us some of the possibilities of the new technology.
