Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly gathering of image makers on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday, except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. With the announced shuttering of DPReview (which did not happen), the last Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! landed here at its new home on 9 April 2023.

    Cathetic Kitty of the Week!

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your picture and stories of your feline companions with us."

“Official” posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don’t accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras welcome. Images from any time, any place. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge where nice comments abound and only constructive criticism is given when it's requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for business. :D

    Last week's purrs, #848 / DPRv #41

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Last week brought a nice combination of kitties past and present. Having these images of the kitties we love and loved can be sad reminders when we lose them, but also remind us of the things that made them special to us and give us the opportunity to share their stories. :)

Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.

    Monochromatic Cats

Just got myself the new and nostalgic Nikon Zf.
It has got a B&W mode in addition to the usual Camera and Video modes, making it really easy to switch from color to B&W at the flip of a switch.
Though I am normally not a B&W shooter, the Zf really make access to B&W shooting so easy without the need to do menu diving that I can’t resist testing it out on my cats. After shooting them, I realized that cats are essentially monochromatic creatures and seem to look their most dramatic best in monochromatic B&W.

    Hi,

That works for me. Plus there are monochromatic images of cats and then there are monochromatic cats....

I like the B&W cats. High ISO on the new Nikon looks just fine, the 85mm makes a perfect portrait lens for
humans or our fur babies. Fine family portraits- fit to frame and hang on a wall.

Congrats on the new camera! The Zf is such an appealing camera to look at that it really makes me want to get it too! (As did the Z fc.) But I just can't see changing systems at this point.

I really like how these two turned out. Bodhi's direct look and without color how much more striking his markings become. The black and white accentuates Tara's markings, she looks like a tuxedo cat on one side of her face, and an entirely different kind of cat on the other. I'm afraid my B&W guys wouldn't offer similar photo opportunities for me. ;)
