    Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly online community gathering on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday,e except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

    Sleeping Kitty of the Week!

    Cali

    Cali had been a mom cat many times over until she was trapped and her career put to an end. ;) Initially she was terrified of humans, but eventually came to love them as much as her kittens. She was the most loving kitty I've ever known. This one of her resting comfortably is from Christmas Day 2013.

    As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

    "Official" posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don't accidentally double post.

    Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras, all cat fanciers welcome! Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Tales of their lives or adventures. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

    The Sunday Cat! is now open for mischief. :D

    Last week's Zzzzzzzs, #972 / DPRv #164 / Sunday Cats! #64

    Thread Manager's Corner:
    Last week was a snoozy one. :) For me it got very busy and once I posted Cali's picture I never turned my own computer on again until today. Hopefully after enjoying a little rest we'll see some more kitties stop by. :D

    ~~~ Kim
    Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.
    My 12 year old desktop pc died a few weeks ago and have been using a newer 13 inch laptop. The old desktop pc had 2 drives in it and photos were stored on a second drive so did not lose any photos however the boot drive (a ssd) seemed to have decided it did not like window so, well you get the idea. I finally bit the (expensive) bullet and purchased a new pc with a 27 inch monitor. So reinstalling, figuring out passwords has been an ongoing project.
    But...here is an old photo of Niko(rip) from about the time my dead pc was new
    Hi,
    So. Jack was out all night last night. Came in for breakfast because breakfast is Wet Food Time. ;)
    So here is what the rest of his day was like. Sleeping it off.
    Hi,
    Last night, Sammy was going around the ball track faster than the ball. For a while. Then she ran out of steam. What to do? Take a break on top of her toy, that's what. :)
    I had to flip the LED on, hence her eyeball glow. She was otherwise lit by the TV screen showing the Carolina Hurricanes game.
    Oh my! What a week it was. :) My week started off with an installation project that started Sunday morning at 0800 and ended at 0130 the next day. It was downhill after that... Catching up now.
    I can't recall hearing of Niko before. Kitties past as well as present can always find a home here. Thanks for sharing Niko with us.
    Your situation sounds similar to mine from last year. My Dell laptop actually had two drives. Photos were on the second one. I didn't have a drive failure though. When I tried to copy the existing SSD C drive to a new larger one, the computer wouldn't boot up with it. Then when I put the old one back in, it wouldn't start then either. I just gave up on it. It was a refurbished from 2013 and still had Win7 so it was time. Now I have all my photos on external drives. One primary and two backups. But the cost for SSDs has skyrocketed (I'm assuming it's a US phenonium only). The 2TB drive I bought last year costs some three times as much today. Ouch! By the way, I did also lose access to my MS Office software. If you're in a similar situation, I found a very good replacement called Softmaker Office 2024 (current version, 2026 is in beta). I bought the non-subscription version of it. It does not have an e-mail client but it has the pieces I use most, a text writer and spreadsheet application. Good luck on your migration!
    Beautiful pair. In the interest of anthropomorphizing the second kitty's thoughts in looking up, "Hey! You're getting in the way of my shot!"
    They are definitely very good at temperature management. My house is on a slab, so they always found the kitchen floor to be rather attractive when the temp climbed.
    Perhaps you caught him between turns? Cooling one side on the tile, then rolling over and cooling the other? They definitely have a number of tricks they'll use for managing body temp.
    Looks like Jake noticed all the kitties this week and decided to see what they're up to! Maybe he'll get to learn a few tricks here for managing in the hot weather this summer. ;)
