Welcome all to the Sunday Cat!, a weekly online community gathering on a subject of mutual interest, our feline friends. The Sunday Cat! has appeared each Sunday,e except for a brief interruption in September, 2016, since Anton AK started the thread at DPReview on 23 September 2007. Successive thread managers have been John King, Warriormouse, Robert J, Coldamus, Robert J again (with an assist by StanTsui) and since September 2016, former lurker, me. When DPReview was threatened with closure in March 2023, the last regular Sunday Cat! there was hosted on 2 April 2023. After taking a leap of faith, the Sunday Cat! found refuge here on 9 April 2023.

    Unassuming Kitty of the Week!

As said by Warriormouse, "Photos can be more than just art, they can be memories, so come share your pictures and stories of your feline companions with us."

"Official" posting time is every Sunday at 0000 UTC. Because this is Saturday afternoon for me, posting time may vary to accommodate my schedule. I'll try to post a message if I know I will be very late. Anyone anxious to start the new week is free to do so. But if you do, please PM me so I don't accidentally double post.

Come one, come all! All cats, all cameras, all cat fanciers welcome! Digital cats or silver halide cats, cats of metal, or cats of the wilderness. Big cats, small cats, kittens and their toys. Cats of pen and ink, cats of brush and canvas, from any time, any place. Tales of their lives or adventures. Let the Sunday Cat! be a refuge to enjoy and marvel at the magic of cats, where positive comments abound and constructive criticism is given if requested.

The Sunday Cat! is now open for mischief. :D

    Thread Manager's Corner:
Last week we had some special images and thoughts on how our kitties want to engage us in their activities. ;) Maybe some more this week!

Last week I also made a special offer that I will repost again here, since I didn't post it straight up it might have been missed. Because we're coming up on 10 years of my managing this thread, I'd like to share the celebratory mood by offering a Sunday Cat hat to regular contributors here. I just need an address sent to me by direct message or in an email exchange so I can add it to the list. The vendor can ship internationally but there are some restrictions so I might not be able to get one to everyone. I don't expect a huge number of requests, but I'd like to have several. (The price goes down significantly with 10, more than making up for the cost of shipping.) I'd like to have all requests by the 21st of August, which should get them to you in September in time to celebrate. :)

Though small in size, the imprint they make on our lives is huge.

Mokey lounging in the shade on a hot summers day. I may have posted this before

It looks quite comfy, not one of those slippery metal roofs. ;)

I like the scene here with Max in quiet contemplation of the toy before him, meanwhile KK in the background seems to be making a furtive (and futile) effort not to be captured by the camera! Cats with their personalities on display.

It looks very pleasant there is the shade. He seems to be giving you a very sweet look, or at least he doesn't mind having his picture being taken. :)

I used to keep two folders for the Sunday Cat! One with photos staged to post and the other with photos that I had posted. After a while though my backup drive ended up with full duplication in both folders so I gave up and just put everything in one, relying on my memory as to whether I posted a particular image before or not. In any case however, if it's a good one like this it's worth repeating. :D

A street cat we met last week in Sint Maarten, in Philipsburg. My son is a cat whisperer so he introduced us after he befriended the kitty.

My son and his wife had adopted a rescue cat from Sint Maarten after the 2017 hurricane that devastated the island. Maarten (named for his homeland) crossed the rainbow bridge two years ago after a pleasant retirement in Nashville. They visited the Sint Maarten Cat Rescue organization that transitioned Maarten to the US after the hurricane and they didn't know any of his history, whether he was a street cat or a beloved pet lost in the storm. He was a sweet tempered, beautiful kitty but he was not fond of snow.
