thats what i thought. so may names for simple things. dark current, shot noise ect. i had a read . as one guy said the image sensor is very basic its the electronics that support it is where the tech is. i can understand that. 1 photo diode, 4 transistors and probably a few resistors and capacitors thrown together .....40 million times 😁

There's a very important technical term in photography - 'straw man'. Thanks for the example.

If it's 'particles in the atmosphere', how do we get light from the sun?

I would say it is far from it. If not so, I would argue we had straw man arguments back and forth for about week now. It's easy to accuse anyone from anything.

Dark current and shot noise are entirely different things.

Yes, A tripod also lets you shoot long amounts of light at night. Gold. True.

It was a tabloid in the 60s. One day in 1966 I was buying developer and paper at The Camera Shop on Bryant Street in Palo Alto. I knew all the salesmen (and they were all men, and they showed up at Keeble and Shuchat when Terry started that store a few years later) from the days when I was photo editor of the Stanford Chaparral. One of them said that there was a local racing photographer, Tom Montgomery, who was looking for an assistant. He gave me Tom's number. I called, and it sounded interesting. No money would change hands, but Tom would get be photo passes for the races, would introduce me to the corner workers and some drivers and tell me how to behave out on the race track. I had a Nikon FTn, a NIkkormat, and 55mm, 135mm, and 200mm lenses. Tom shot Nikon stuff, and he had everything: Nikon Fs with motor drives, 300mm lenses, etc. He was happy to loan me anything he wasn't using. I did have to wear a dorky shirt with Tom Montgomery Photo on the back. I'd shoot in the pits on Friday, and out of the course on Saturday and Sunday; that was the way tom wanted it. We'd turn in our film at the Start/Finish line when the race was over, and, if we were lucky, we'd get the negs back when CP&A was done with them, overdeveloped and scratched. After a while, I started to get more cover shots than Tom. I could tell he was a little miffed about that, but that isn't what ended the relationship, as I remember. I stopped doing that kind of photography when I went to work for HP in 1969 and got very busy there.

i wasn't saying they were the same .i cant believe how much Bs is sort over a simple photo diode op amp circuit. i passed my full Ham license when i was 17 yo. in the days of no multiple choice questions. you made gear in your own radio shack . you built your own programable scanners that connected to PLL transceivers. to over ride the factory set channels. after having a read last night it all made sense as to how much deception goes on here, its not like the truth is not told its just that the whole truth is not told and dragged out to make others feel less educated 🤨sad. now go tell everyone how simple duel gain is implemented. 😂

  • April 21, 2023, 9:32 p.m.

It's a mistake to think that ham electronics translate without an extra layer of understanding.

  • April 21, 2023, 9:33 p.m.

Don't worry. You're rarely the first name that comes to my mind when I want a good explanation of something.

"extra layer." Pun intended, dual gain electronics, i nearly wet myself laughing how it was implemented. thats gold.

you made the right choice .as my daughter always says my English is pathetic. but i can lift heavy fings 😁
Best part is ,i need not enter into these discussions anymore. I have my answers..
glad you implemented open discussions on these forums without locking them like DPR. much appreciated.

Where is the "simple photo diode op amp circuit"? And "sort"? What does that mean?
