The Kodak Professional DCS 720x, 25 years of history already!
The Kodak Professional DCS 720x is a particularly interesting model in the history of DCS, especially because it represents the culmination of Kodak's Nikon F5 generation.
In 1999, Kodak launched the DCS 620 and 660, built around the Nikon F5. They were extremely expensive professional cameras, but very high-performing for their time.
In 2000, the DCS 620x appeared, a specialized evolution of the 620, with a much more sensitive sensor.
Then, in 2001, Kodak decided to renew this generation with the DCS 720x and DCS 760. The 720x was announced on June 4, 2001, with an announced price of $6,995 US
Only 2 megapixels (1728 × 1152 pixels) for the DCS 720X !!
Its sensor measures approximately 22.5 × 15 mm, a format close to APS-C, with a conversion factor of approximately 1.6×
The famous "Xena" CMY sensor
The 720x uses a Kodak M23 sensor with a Xena CMY color matrix , Instead of the traditional: classic RGB
With ISO sensitivities ranging from 400 to 6400. The 720x was essentially Kodak's "night specialist".
The 720x is also the last DCS to use the famous Nikon F5 as its base.
