The Weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Starting 24 August 2026 Any Brand

This is the weekly Collegial Show Your Photos Any Brand thread where we invite you to show your own pictures. It is collegial in that it is a pleasant and friendly place among photographers to share.

I will begin this thread each Monday (Pacific Standard Time) to give each of you all the chance to share your weekend photos with us, for those that follow a regular work week schedule and choose to do it that way. But the pictures can be taken at any time with any camera, including your cell phone. It's open to all skill levels from beginners to advanced. The images posted can be anything from casual snaps to extraordinary. I'll be sure to comment to each of your photos, if you choose to share. Replies from others are encouraged also.

The intent of this thread to mainly to just show photos in a relaxed way and to generate replies or comments about them. Generally I'm not planning to critique any image unless asked. But I or we may ask things about a photo that may develop into a discussion, always being friendly and helpful. It has been a request that I mention this and from what I've learned from past experience: Can you ask a member first if they would mind you editing their photos?

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each. Please share any tips or techniques too. A narrative sometimes also helps. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Subject: Myrtle Creek Covered Bridge

On our travels to and from California a few weeks ago, we saw another covered bridge in Southern Oregon. We found this in Myrtle Creek. There are quite a few of these covered bridges that can be found in various locations on the west side of the Cascade Range. The reason that they were covered was to protect the timber from rotting from the heavy rainfall and moisture. By being covered, these wooden bridges could last about 10 times longer, up to about 80 years.

We were only at Lake Tahoe for four days during our trip to California a few weeks ago.

That is a nice bridge, it gives me at vibe from long ago when we still drove around in Model T's 😃
Have mentioned it before (If I remember correct) Lake Tahoe is a place we would love to visit and the region also for some hiking 👍

And we did visit National Park Dwingelderveld again for some hiking, A cloudy sky but with decent temperatures right now.
Still nature is having difficult time with the drought after the heatwaves we had lately.

Thanks. A lot of these bridges were used for model T's. I read that some of them are also actively used by present-day automobiles, but a lot of them like this one are just kept restored for pedestrians.

At Lake Tahoe many years ago, I took the tram up the mountain (on the south side of the lake). From there a person can hike along the higher elevations which reach a little over 10000 feet or 3000 meters. The time I did that, I had to be careful because I started feeling a little light headed. I walked along a forest service dirt road, so the hike was easy, but I did not want any problems, so I dropped to a lower elevation (like about 300 meters down). Once I did that, I was fine.

It's nice to see the scenes you find while hiking. It appears similar to what we have in Oregon in the valleys. I especially like your damselfly. I used to capture them with my Olympus gear (I probably already told you). With old dusty clothes, I would sit in the weeds waiting for a damselfly. By sitting I could hold the camera and lens very still. I had to be particularly careful of the depth of field. When I started using the Canon 55-250mm lens with my 18 mp Canon DSLR cameras for the same thing I was not as pleased with the images, as what I could get with my 10 mp Olympus E510 and Zuiko 70-300mm lens.

But by showing me your picture, you gave me an idea. I wonder if my Canon RF 100-400mm lens would work well for this, using my Canon R8? I haven't tried that combination yet.

I like your damselfly photo, because the insect is sharp and you found a good background. That is what I used to do too. Not only did I try to find a good damselfly to photograph, but I wanted to have that smooth background. Guess what? I maybe out taking pictures of damselflies this week. 😀

@Digirame the R8 and RF 100-400 is a nice set to work with, a nice lightweight tele setup.
We do use it in that way some times, It's even now in our backpack😁

Edit: and that combination works with the RF 1.4x TC too

Something different, We are in Norway at the moment, enjoying our summer holiday.
This week we will be in the Telemark, Hardangervidda region.
Today no hikes but a few short strolls.
The first one at a lake/reservoir called Møsvatn
