The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

Thread Guidelines:

1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
   Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
   ”Likes” are encouraged too.
5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

Downloading and re-posting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and re-post images in replies to express their analysis and critique. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

The Gulf of Naples

On the island of Procida, the beautitul & colourful Marina Corricella is an old fishermen’s village. A great place to visit with good food and lots of photo opportunities 😊

What a breathtaking and impressive view! The pastel colors and the boat coming through the breakwater along with the shoreline that takes your eye to the upper left of the frame. Very, very nice! I checked it out on the map... interesting. I have made a note of it for possible future exploration... if I can ever get finished with work and retire, LOL. Thanks for posting this. And the IQ/detail is superb. Which lens did you use? I also like the fishing nets (brown tones/colors).

THIS WEEK (more backyard shooting). As I mentioned in the previous threads, my intent has been to "get out" but alas that did not happen. So, the current contribution consists (again) of walking around the side of the house and pointing the camera toward the northeast and northwest. My home office is on the south (street) side, so I'm not seeing the view while I work. However, if I take a break, get up from my desk, and walk around to the back... often times... a-ha!!! There's a ship or a boat. So... go back, get the camera and take a picture. That's about it. :-) ONE OF THESE DAYS... I will venture father afield. Hopefully.

The lens used for this one (and for the last one, in the harbor of the small boats) was the wide angle zoom Z 14-30 F/4 S
It's a great lens, very practical, nice and sharp and F4 is certainly good enough for landscapes

The sunset is good and the two shots of the small sail boats are great.
I don't really have a long telephoto lens at the moment for my Nikon Z system, but you are using yours very well on the coast for these boats.

You mentioned in the post above about retiring,...
Last year was my last year at work, I retired officially in May 2025 but they asked me to stay on till the end of the year and finish one particular project.
I wasn’t in a big hurry to retire, work was something I enjoyed, so working a few months longer to bring that project to a close was OK. I finally left work at the beginning of this year and I’m beginning to really enjoy my retirement now. Lots of time to do things I want to do, but no time pressure to do anything. Keeping fit is one of the main tasks !

The pastel colours are just gorgeous - remid me of ice cream 😁 Did you try any telephoto shots to explore the details in the view? Nets and fishing paraphernalia always make for interesting images - these are definitely worth exploring.
