    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside, … from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape Photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and re-posting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and re-post images in replies to express their analysis and critique. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊

...looking forward to seeing your images,

Very nice sunset colours. Those stripes that get darker and bluer are very good.
And the water tower makes for a perfect eye catcher

    Headwaters

Somewhere in the high country near the Great Divide is the headwaters of the Gros Ventre river flowing South and West to the Snake, then to the Columbia making its way to the Pacific. Just a stones throw to the East on the other side of the divide lies the head waters of the Wind River, flowing into the Yellowstone river, then the Missouri on its way to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic.

Excellent perspective and a beautiful view! I looked on the map... near Dresden... some beautiful rock formations there and the pleasant countryside.

YES... that is a landscape! Near Jackson, WY? I am somewhat familiar with the Great Divide. My uncle rode a bicycle from Calgary to (almost) the Mexican Border along the Great Divide a few years ago. I flew to Tucson and drove to Silver City to meet him... and we had a beer to celebrate. Okay, more than one!

Lake Shore State Park -- Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A stitch.

The shoreline and floating dock are indeed curved a little bit...

    Out West

Last week I was exploring the furtherst west point of mainland UK, the Ardnamurchan peninsula in Scotland. The hamlet of Sanna sits just to the north of the lighthouse (incidentally featuring on BBC Radio 3 as I write this).

Beaches are silver shell sand, lapping around the rocks of the well known (among geologists anyway!) palaeocene volcanic ring complex.

That looks a bit vertiginous! Reminiscent of the Mosel gorges. So many places to explore, so little time!

The west coast rainforest has a very distinctive look, well captured. I like the contrasting shades of green between the mosses and the ferns.
Coast is of course wonderful too. 😀

Great Teton NP is to the West. Dubois, WY is to the Northeast across the Continental Divide. Your uncle completed a great feet. The Continental Divide trail is a long and arduous trail. When you get over South Pass South of Lander, WY you enter a high desert where finding water is not mean feat until you get to the Rocky Mountain high country in Colorado. I have a good friend in WY who worked on the trail in WY. There is one pass in the trail called Jackass Pass. It is in along the divide in the Southern end of the Wind River range.

She told me that she didn't know how it got its name but if you asked her you would have to be as dumb and stubborn as a Jackass to cross it. Most people who go over on horseback, walk their horses. If the horse falls on the narrow trail, they don't want to be on top. There are places one needs to pass bikes up from person to person because the trail is too narrow for a person beside a bike and you would have to be an idiot or maybe Jackass to be on top of a bike on that portion of the trail. So your uncle managed to manage it.

When I saw the first shot I must admit that I thought this was the typical curvature you get with a wide angle lens. The drone image puts a new perspective on that idea :-)
    Nicely stitched.

    A good combination !
The gentle pastel colours in the second are amazing. Your long exposure time has smoothed and softened the moving sea even more, giving a very relaxing feel to the image.

A dark and brooding sky. So typical of Scotland, all part of the character of the land. Only 3 tiny people visible on that beautiful beach :-)
Must be fascinating to recognize and understand the geology of the places you visit.

These are nice, they remind me of the forests here in Austria too.
It's a great time of year when the red leaves on the floor contrast to the green still on the trees.
The second is my favourite with a light and airy bright area of leaves above the path. I want to walk down that path !
