    The Weekly Landscape Thread

This weekly thread, starting on a Friday, allows us to showcase our Landscape photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the emotion in the image, and of course about the place itself.

    It’s easy to participate

Post an image or short essay with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

    Thread Guidelines:

    1. This thread is for sharing and developing our Landscape photography skills.
    2. Entries can be a single image or a short photo essay (2 to 10 connected images that tell a story).
    3. Give your entry a clear title and perhaps also explain why you took it, or the story it tells.
    4. Provide constructive feedback on others’ images/essays.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
      ”Likes” are encouraged too.
    5. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).

Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

    What is a Landscape photo?

This means different things for different people. For me, it includes a wide range of photos taken outside,… from wide sweeping vistas to smaller details found along the route. Seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, woodland shots, landscapes at night with some stars, and lots more are all OK. They could also include man-made objects and people or animals outside, but they are not usually the main subject. Show us, with your photos, what Landscape photography means to you.

    Motivation

I love to go hiking in the natural world and capture photos along the way. It keeps me fit (physically and mentally) and provides some beautiful memories. Processing those images when I return is fun too, it often helps to enhance what I saw.

    Downloading and reposting

It’s often challenging to verbalise comments about images. Instead, it’s sometimes easier to “show.” Unless the original poster specifically states otherwise (in each original post), participants are free to download, alter, and repost images in replies to express their analysis and critique. The reposted image may remain permanently or be removed after a short period. Downloaded and altered images shall not be used for any other purposes or uploaded elsewhere.

Enough said,… Go out, enjoy the open air, take some photos. Bring back the memories and post them here in the Weekly Landscape Thread 😊
...looking forward to seeing your images

Step in and explore the lake

This photo was taken during a trip to Sweden. While driving, we noticed on the sat nav that a large lake was nearby, though it was hidden from view. We parked and walked over to the top of the ridge, discovering this beautiful lake. It would have been wonderful to untie the boat, stroll down the small pier, jump in, and explore the water, but unfortunately...

It's very well done. It's a shot where the interest travels from the tip of out toes along a zig zagging line to the far distant horizon. There's variety all along the line. When we run out of wood, the boat takes it up, then the sky refelected between clous , then gaps in the reeds and finally the little dip precisely where we want it on the horizon. As you say, a photo that explores the lake.

Crater Lake National Park - an old shot made in early summer with an old camera. Still like it though. Crater Lake is a small uncrowded but intensely beautiful national park near the coast of Oregon.

Very nice, you were right to stop and explore a bit !
The vertical lines work very well, especially thanks to the cloud and their reflections, both perfectly organised for that picture.

I would suggest to check the bottom right corner where you cloned something out. Also, I feel that the "luminosity gradient" (the top of the picture is dark, the middle is average, the bottom has a lot more light) tends to draw my eye in the wrong way (from top to bottom), I would try to balance the light a bit (make the top slightly clearer, and the bottom slightly darker). Eventually, I am wondering: what if the post wasn't there, and the rope kept going to the bottom of the picture ? (Not sure about that)

A very pretty scene, well composed with realistic pleasant looking colours.
Looking through the foreground frame, tree stump on the left and the trees on the right, we get to view that beautiful lake. A really interesting lake with an island in the middle and the steep rocky "bank" all around. You can clearly see that this is a crater lake. A nice sunny day for a hike. Was it easy to reach this position or a long hike ?
When looking close up, the image has been smoothed somewhat, probably with the noise reduction, so that the mountains and tree stump almost look like a realistic painting :-)

    Thanks
I had to look closely to find the cloning mistakes, at bottom right. Thanks for spotting that, easily fixed.
I took and processed the image 12 years ago. Maybe I'd do it differently today :-)
As to the eye being drawn down to the bright bottom,... well, the bottom of the image is the perfect place to start. Now that you are at the bottom, you can find, and untie, the rope, walk back up the boards, step into the boat and explore the lake ;-)

I'm learning :-) before I read your text, I looked at the image and thought "this looks like the Badlands", a place I'd never heard of before your previous posts !
With the clear air and the light as it is, the mountains look almost like the've been cut out and pasted in. I've seen the mountains here in Austria looking like that on some days. Quite impressive when it's like that.

Framed to perfection. The amazing thing is that a place like this can be uncrowded.
