Going through my old slides, it is striking how the things have changed here in my part of Italy, Maybe some of the traditional boats on the Po survive, but I have not seen anybody fishing with a net for years. The farmers and agents doing deals in the the town square are a thing of the past and "leisure wear" has replaced the suit and hat for the very few that still gather in the piazza.

Wow, just an amazing set. So poignant, so evocative. And a little sad too. The Po shots are beautiful, such atmosphere.
But this piazza shot is outstanding. All the faces are a joy to work through, such varying expressions. The guy on the right with his arms crossed is scary. The guy next to him has got some swag. Love those hats. And I'd wear that jacket (dead centre) today.
I hear that Italy is facing an obesity problem, with the much-vaunted Mediterranean diet being lost in favour of the 5 'P's, pasta, pizza, pane, potatoes, and proteins.

    t'Mill

Yesterday I had a tour of the Stott Park Bobbin Mill with a group of friends. This was one of hundreds of bobbin mills throughout the north of England that supplied the Lancashire cotton industry with the essential parts for cotton manufacture. Originally driven by a water wheel in 1835, then a steam engine, before finally converting to an electric motor in 1941, and finally closing in 1971.

    P8146965.jpg

The range of different sizes and shapes made here each reflected specific uses, from fine cotton thread to wire.

The high contrast treatment suits this harsh Med light shot. Maybe I would have cropped a bit tighter eliminating the sky on the right.

I love industrial archaeology, so I found this set fascinating. Health and Safety was pretty lacking back then, as this shot shows.

I don't know if I have mentioned this in this forum or not. On January 24th, 2026, I quit drinking and haven't had a single drop since. It is empty calories and increases my appetite. On January 30th, 2026 I went on a diet. On that day, I weighed 230.1 lbs. (104.37 Kilograms). This morning I weighed 198.9 lbs. (90.21 Kilograms).

In our part of Italy the diet has always been pretty unhealthy. Lasagna, ragù, pasta, salami and a hundred other pork variants are our mainstays. It was a diet for heavy manual labour, and not for those who have sedentary occupations.

This shot really gives you a clear understanding of the place. Go choice of perspective. The person at the top really makes the shot.
