The Silver Walk
One of the best walks in the Ardnamurchan area is a loop from Castle Tioram and part of the Silver Walk. The weather forecast was not promising, but, well, that's what you have to plan for on the west coast of Scotland in September...
The castle sits on a tidal island and is supposedly one of the most picturesque castles in Scotland. I think I'd agree with that.
The first part of the loop follows the coast along slippery rocks - and occasionally with extra hazards! It began to rain...
The rain got more persistant. The weathersealing on my old EM5 II is beginning to fail, resulting in the camera not turning off at the switch. I had to resort to unplugging the battery to turn off. Inconvenient, but not life threatening. The colours of the seaweed on the west coast always make an impression.
The path then turns inland and climbs over some quintessential Scottish bog, with remains of scattered homestaeds cleared in the 19th century.
Beyond the highest point, the path descends toward a small loch. Now where could we pause to eat a picnic lunch?
So, we found a small tee which gave minimal shelter, and of course after eating a soggy lunch the rain began to ease, and we descended back down toward the coast.
As we got lower, the weather lifted revealing views back out to the Small Isles.
It took quite a while to dry out, including hanging the camera over a radiator. But the walk was indeed a good one, with lots of variety in a relatively short loop. Must be fantastic on a fine day.... 😁
