    Roel,

Publishing a book is quite an undertaking. Good luck!

There is no one "right way" to present architectural images. And this image is yours to interpret as you wish.

While perspective distortion can be used for dramatic effect, I always do everything I can to straighten the perspective in such images from the exaggerated distortion the camera can introduce, both at the time of the shooting and in post production.

Just a suggestion is the image "corrected" a bit with Photoshop's Perspective Warp capability . . .

Now, you have a very fertile imagination, I must say. Is he pushing a pram while attempting to contact someone? Is this what we are seeing, while the partner is just walking along? I am sure there is a number of scenarios we can all indulge. Let's be positive and assume it's just an innocent inquiry he is seeking...

    Great light, good scene.

Great atmosphere, great light, great table ser-up. Very inviting. I like all the elements. Winning shot.

Thank you for the suggested corrections, but (call me stupid if you want) I actually like the distortion and the lean.
I like the knight-statue leaning over the church, and the church's lines creating almost diagonals towards the knight.

Thanks also for your kind words on the book.
Just to be clear: this is not a "photo book by Roel Hendrickx".
It is a book by an author for which I have visited roughly 200 locations, of which roughly 100 images will illustrate the book.
My name is mentioned, but as a "mercenary" in the service of the text.
By now, I have done about a dozen of those book-photography jobs for Luster (the publisher).

This scene is very attractive for the reflections and repetition of geometric shapes and a sense of place (even though I don't know where it is). The balance of the composition and lack of humans makes it feel like a fleeting moment of serenity before all comes alive.

There are so many smaller stories that demanded playful processing, I'm afraid I couldn't ignore the urge. Here are three 😁

Thanks! I added a b&w to the entry you just answered, but it needs more work. Was thinking high contrast for a geometry study. Had a heck of a time with loading the photos and keeping proper formatting this time.

    I really like this image.

Just one suggestion . . . straighten, so all the water doesn't run out. 😉

LEUVEN-Opposite St. Peter's Church, on the left side of the town hall, we find those gems of two fully restored buildings with a bicycle shed underneath. As far as I know, this view of the town hall also belongs in the book about Leuven. Furthermore, I assume that the construction date of the Cityhouse is also mentioned in the book, as this piece of architecture has taken place recently, thought about 1850 or later. It has a Gothic style, but is not Gothic.

What should also not be missing is the book on one of my shelves, so Roel let me know where I can buy it.

    Hello Lou,
That is a very good view you have there, in order to illustrate how modern urban planning combines with the historic buildings. The area around City Hall and St Pieterskerk has been made traffic-free (except buses and taxis), and under the newly constructed square there is indeed that very big bicycle storage.
The closest building in your shot, is now a prestigious hotel (I photographed it for a previous book) whose style corresponds nicely with the neo-gothic city hall.

About the book: it will be called "Gids Leuven" by author Eric Min.
I will keep you posted on date of publication, but that will be in the fall of this year (september or october).
The book will be widely available in all normal bookstores, at least in Belgium and especially of course in Leuven.
But you will also be able to order a copy online from the publisher's website and online store.
They are Luster and their website is at <www.lusterpublishing.com>

Fantastic captures! Even though it doesn't have the tragic background, it reminds me of Pompeji and the sudden end of a lively everyday life. I love these two shots - they work very well in terms of composition and look. Very impressive

Summer In The City: Tomorrow's Hope

Just got home from spending a week in Nashville with our son and his wife. They live in Tomorrow's Hope, an unusual district adjacent to Nations. Oldest grandson, intrigued with city life, tagged along for the trip. The yard is pretty surreal halfway through a swimming pool installation. I tried to capture the combination of mundane and surreal, not sure it worked.
