I agree on it being a really nice image. I have a completely opposite view about cropping the people out. They're the aspect which make it interesting beyond a beautiful holiday shot... I like how it adds a "stage" or "screen" aspect to the whole scene. People are observers, rather than participants, which is very true for how many people act during vacations. Well done!

Yesterday, I visited the Anderton Boat Lift (canalrivertrust.org.uk/things-to-do/museums-and-attractions/anderton-boat-lift-and-visitor-centre-cheshire) in Cheshire and was allowed right up to the top. It was a faboulous Victorian structure. Here's some images I took. More to follow when I process them

And some images from the top.

This photo really draws me in.
The boat nestled amidst reflections of hills, houses, and branches.
The tree seems to want to protect the boat.
    A feast for the eyes!

A nice holiday photo, I’d say.
But the people on the far right make me curious.
Are they there as onlookers, or are they on their way from A to B?

The impressive artwork is called "Meredith Stare" by Nils Westergard.

It's in the STRAAT museum in Amsterdam, so @minniev war correct in guessing that as a location for my last image.

This is an impressive work of art that draws me in to contemplate and understand it at length.
    Very good!

Nicely captured. What I like particularly, (besides the fact that the dream chaser is seemingly leaping from a wall which is slowly disintegrating in real life), are the three scooters on the bottom... Two of those are still dreaming, while the third one has given up.

    NEW HOPE

Yesterday in Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) in the picturesque but paradoxical quarter Pelourinho.
(Stay on the touristy streets with shops and bars and it is all roses & samba.
Take a few turns and you immediately see abject poverty and homelessness.)

Shot with my OM-1 mkII and transferred to my phone for minor adjustments of contrast etc.

A fertile mix of ingredients to fire off responses from viewers.
The contrast in size of the people helps make the image and the street name contributes context. "Pink"links the child and the figures and suggests an association.

An example of the importance brought to an image by the viewer.
Six months ago I would have felt differently looking at these. Bird flu arrived in Australia a few weeks ago. We are watching in horror as it spreads between species and the numbers start to build.
Consequently Kumal's studies trigger appreciation, empathy and fears.

Victorian machinery has a lot of charm. You get a feel for how it works and the strength of the structure.
The arrow head cogs are new to me. Alan's photos make a feature of them.
A piece of machinery well worth preserving.

Agreed. The tiny patch of faces immediately stood out for me. At first, I wasn't sure whether this was a reflection...or what? Including them completely changes the "story." Now we have tourists insulated from beach. I can't see anyone on the beach who looks like a tourist. We have moved to social commentary.

The hooks add a grafitti moustache to the portrait. The levity is at odds with the fiercely concentrated stare of the eyes and the set of the mouth. The red/gold/brown complements the blue of the eyes.
A witty and beautifully captured moment of juxtaposition.

The similarity of line and colour between the groins of the roof, the stained glass surrounds and then the inverted T with the pew backs, make the shot. It is carefully composed to bring out the relationship.

It's the kind of moment that gets me out of my swag early when camping in Australian bush. I can hear the magpies.
Photographically, perhaps make a bit more of the left/right leaning inwards composition by removing the small cone shape of dark leaves in the centre along the lower edge.
