This weekly thread, starting on a Tuesday, allows us to showcase our abstract and experimental photos and get some feedback.
Opening up discussions, not only on content, style, composition & techniques, but also on the creativity of the image.

It’s easy to participate
Post an image with a title and description. To make it easier to view in the forum, all comments should include the original title and at least one of the original images as a quote.

Thread Guidelines:
This weekly thread is for sharing and developing abstract and experimental photography skills.
We want to see wild, creative photography.
Give your entry a clear title and mention the technique used.
Provide constructive feedback on others’ images.
Try to go beyond simple praise or dismissal and explain why you like it, or what caught your eye.
"Likes” are encouraged too. Negative feedback and suggestions are also OK (be polite, honest, and constructive).
Giving feedback is just as important as receiving feedback, both help to improve our artistic and technical skills.

What is an abstract or experimental photo?
Different ways to see and investigate the world around us. Abstract photography reduces a subject to shapes, tones or colors making it unrecognizable. Abstract subjects are everywhere.

Experimentation might include, stereo/3D, macro, Infrared, dragged shutter, zone plate, pinhole, motion, fluorescence, multiple exposure, birefringence, ultra violet, optical including adapted lenses, tri color, fractals, manipulated Polaroids, intentional camera movement, pinhole, Kirlian (bioelectrography) and many other methods. Experimentation can be for artistic expression or pure science. It is often more difficult than standard types of photography. This is fine, we aren't expecting perfection. Every experiment enhances knowledge. Your idea can help others explore the universe around them. We love experimentation. You can explain your process or keep it a secret.

This will be a looser collection of photos compared to other weekly threads. This is good. It will be a place to get away from standard animals, babies & sunset photos. We don't hate animals, babies or sunsets. Show us your creative abstract and experimental images. Are you unsure if the image fits the category? Don't worry, just post it. FEEL FREE TO POST MULTIPLE TIMES TO THIS THREAD. Have fun!

Ferris wheels in motion

Spectacular images. Both are amazing, I find #1 a little more amazing. The start/stop jittery effect is really cool. Guessing you intentionally bumped and moved the tripod while exposing? What equipment did you use?

No tripod. All handheld. Nikon D300 Nikkor 17-55.

Thor dropping by late afternoon...

Cool pattern with abstract qualities. Nature presents great subjects. You captured a nice one. Like the light left side vs dark right composition. It increases the drama and adds interest. Well done.

I did not know where to put this so if it is in the wrong place I'll move it.

I experiment with montages, in 2003 I contacted Catherine McIntyre and asked how to start, she kindly explained the very basics. In 2011 after multiple failures I threw everything to one side and just chose images at random and tried to harmonise them, that began to work.

DAZ3D (NOT AI) I use a Genesis Three (created by DAZ) model with body and skin by Adam Thwaites who lives in Scarborough I call her Cora Thwaites. I like Ballet poses and Dancers who pose are far above my pay grade. Cora's body is very flexible and can be altered right down to individual finger joints. She will attempt most ballet poses and mostly gets very close to them. I can also fit a pose into an image rather than the other way round, DAZ figures can be rendered with lighting and shadows

This image began with some roofing felt found in the local scrapyard to which I added the rest you see here. One of the best things I find about doing this is making a start and not know what the outcome will be, inspiration often takes over and sometimes works and other times fails miserably.

Definitely experimental and this is the right place to share them. Welcome to the thread. There are few photo rules here. We tend to bend or break the rules. Your image is a great start. I like the creativity and freshness.

Fascinating image exploring new techniques and areas I've never considered. "Hiring" artificial models and combining them with real world images is very interesting. I looked up DAZ3D to see what it was and how it worked. If I understand correctly, one can start with a basic model for free and add extra details for money?

Please give us a little info about your workflow. Does this require vast computing power or memory. Do you always use the same model? Is Cora a basic model or have you added extra details?
