The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 is a rather unique camera in the history of digital photography. Introduced in 2006, it was Panasonic's first digital SLR, developed in partnership with Leica and based on the Four Thirds system.

7.5 MP Live MOS sensor (17.3 × 13 mm).
Four Thirds mount, compatible with Olympus Zuiko and Leica Four Thirds lenses.
Rangefinder-type viewfinder (the prism is offset to the left), which gives it a very different look from classic SLRs.

i would of loved one of these back in 2006 ,but they were just to expencive, hear in AUS they were $3k and as i was just starting in the world of photography i couldnt see the value, the nikon d200 was $ 2500 and that was to expencive as well so i bought a pentax k100d 2 lens kit for $1300. took some great images with that camera,
followed by the k10 and K7 the k7, was a beautiful camera as well. fz150 ( macro machine + canon 500d lens ) followed epl5, em5, em52, em2mk2 and then onto sony. the rest is history, latest fuji x100vi. Im done.

Personally, I bought the famous Nikon D200 in early 2006 for CA$2100 (US$1700) and it was pure bliss!
On the other hand, I acquired the Lumix DMC-L1 in 2015, its performance is rather mediocre in comparison.
You made the right choice in choosing the Pentax K100D. 👍🏼

@Maoby, enjoying your history of digital cameras. My first two DSLRs were the Pentax ist* DS and Olympus E300. I greatly preferred the Pentax and still have it. The menu was much easier for me to use and I preferred the picture quality.

Interesting that Pana and Oly both built DSLRs in the rangefinder format. Wonder why they did that? Was one company involved with the other in some way besides belonging to the 4/3 group? The Olympus E-1 came first and didn't use the rangefinder style. Still have the E-1. Need to charge it up and shoot some.
