The Weekly Street Photography Thread.

We are hoping to get your images and hear what other members think about them.
It is open to all members of the forum; members can post a single image or a selection of images on a theme in a single post. Multiple posts are allowed.
What constitutes street photography has always been debatable. There are several opinions about it, and we do not want to restrict participants. You can post whatever you deem fits into the genre; however, please be prepared to hear criticism as well.

Guidelines:
1. We aim to increase the popularity of street photography and encourage our fellow photographers to be more interested in the genre.
2. Give your photo a title and include any other information you think is relevant. I personally love to know why you made this photo, what attracted you to make it, and why you like it. But this is NOT MANDATORY.
3. A single image or a theme-based group of images are allowed. No multiple posts, please.
4. If you post an image, that means you are ready to hear feedback.
5. We want to hear your thoughts about others’ posts.
6. Please keep all posts civilised and polite.
7. Unless specifically stated otherwise by the original poster, please do not modify the images

Interesting film still…

They seem like an attentive audience, but not very inclined to leave a tip...

I have titled this image, don’t ask me why, "Glass of coffee with milk, with a lady wearing a hat, a phone, and a green plastic bag"…

The local town has a truck show. They kick all the cars out and squeeze the trucks into the parking spaces... My car might get a wash every 6 months - these guys are all over them with a clean rag... I missed the sun, might go in tomorrow and try for something better - there are some nice looking colour schemes...
They all wear black t-shirts - lots of men with large bellies and girls with big bums... 😏

[When I bought my G9M2 I got the Pana Leica 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 kitted with it. It has hardly had any use but I am enjoying its output]

I love long-nosed trucks, they are definitely much sexier than European cubicles.

12-60 is a very versatile range. I have Lumix version of this lens, PL has a much better built quality, a lot faster and I believe it has an aperture control too. But I paid my 12-60 only £50 so I cant complain :)

A Little Music To Sleep By

This sleeper must not have made the street performer happy. Was her performance putting him to sleep? Not what one would expect the audience's reaction to be. I've applied an art effect to the photo. I am experimenting with this in editing. I have been doing 'street' for ages; strictly by the 'book'. Meaning strictly in conformity with convention. I am trying to get rid of that sort of 'straight jacket' and do something different and often not found in street photography. Garish color is not what serious street photographers do. I very much get at best 'mixed' reactions and at worst demeaning responses from dedicated street shooters. So if you are in the camp that is deeply insensed by my 'creativity' then go ahead and say so because I've heard it before. I don't want anyone to feel they have to be polite because they are supposed to when posting to this thread. But, should you like it or such that would be nice to say so, too. Cheers😀

She Turned To Me And Gave Me A Look

I am not a shy street shooter that typically employs a telephoto, shoots safely from long distance. I am close to my subjects. In the thick of the moment. As a result I have the unique perspective of knowing the story at the scene. The distance shooter can only guess. Here I was walking in a group of pedestrians when this woman turned to me, looked into the camera, and gave me a look. So click went the shutter. What's the story? (We live in this goofy age which criminalizes the street photographer for doing what he does - photographs people. There will be a gap of evidence in the history of the behavior of people because their behavior was not recorded in our era since street photographers where prohibited from photographing people in everyday life. But, only for our era. In times before, during the lives of the great and notable street photographers of the past, the activity of street photographers was not criminalized so historians know of what life was like then. But, not in our era. And, that reflects our era. The digital era where the era was one of social paranoia. And, street photography is the victim of that era, as well as history and historical evidence. Rant, finished.) So what's the story. The story is that women like and want attention. Yes, I know. Women want privacy. Really? I disagree. Otherwise the beauty business would be out of business. This woman wanted attention and so gave me her attention to the purpose of her wanting to be noticed. So I noticed her. And, by that committed a crime? And, that's the joke of our era. The digital era. Enjoy.

These are interesting thoughts. Photographing people without their consent or even their knowledge is something getting more and more difficult. I know from your previous posts that you are quite visible to your intended subjects, I guess this makes it a bit easier as if someone is not happy with it they can request to delete your photos even though they have no right to ask for it. But many people think otherwise, in Europe things are getting more and more complicated. This can be debated days and nights but I dont think that any agreement will come out of this. So I'd rather not to go ahead to discuss what it is private or not, or of there is privacy in public areas.
However, I have to say this: the sentences I quoted above are quite easy to be misunderstood and I find them sexist.

The term 'sexist' is an over used word that has been used to refer to nearly everything involving both masculine and feminine behavior and social mores. You will have to be much more specific than that. I notice in your comments that you don't want to engage in specifics. By that you avoid the entire issue by using vague, generalized terms that could mean almost anything.

Quite often, the owners tend to be more interesting than their machines. We are waiting for the pics 😀

In the areas where I usually walk around—the city's old town—seeing lots of tourists and cameras is the norm, so there generally aren't any issues, people are used to it.
I try not to be a nuisance, avoiding children, vulnerable individuals, or situations that might be unflattering or awkward whenever possible. However, I don't mind taking the occasional portrait, whether shooting from the hip or more openly. In the case of this particular photo, I think the fact that the woman is hidden behind her hat reinforces that sense of isolation and introspection. If she had looked up, the photo would almost certainly be in the trash...

I think this is the balanced, common sense view. There is so much talk that is amplified by social (and main stream) media, but I am sure there are many who are still capable of rational viewpoints.

An interesting side note: People talk about kids / teenagers spending their life buried in their phones. But now I am seeing snaps of older people doing exactly that. The world turns...

I really like it; it’s a fun situation captured in a lively image. In this case, I think the processing works well, though I’m sure I’d like the "conventional" version too.
My concern with very striking processing styles is that they can cause nuances to be lost (sometimes that doesn't matter) or even end up stealing the spotlight from the image itself...
